Toy Story 4 gets a new screenwriter in Stephany Folsom

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

TOY STORY 3 may have wrapped up the story of Woody (Tom Hanks), Buzz (Tim Allen) and the gang in a way that would make a hardened murderer weep, but what is dead may never die in Hollywood. A TOY STORY 4 is still on the way, and after a screenwriter shake-up, the new film has found it’s new writer in Stephany Folsom.

Deadline got the exclusive about the new hiring of Folsom, who has been gaining attention in Hollywood after her screenplay, “1969: A Space Odyssey Or: How Kubrick Learned To Stop Worrying And Land On The Moon” made the Black List. Folsom was also a writer on the Marvel smash THOR: RAGNAROK, but was denied a credit from the Writer’s Guild of America. TOY STORY 4 then will mark her first major, credited screenwriting effort.

Originally, the latest entry in the massive toy-based franchise was to be written by Rashida Jones and Will McCormack, but they parted ways with Pixar last year. Many believed the split had something to do with the allegations of sexual assault made against Pixar’s John Lasseter, but Jones later said it was over “creative” and “philosophical” disagreements.

Folsom has been getting some high-profile work recently, so clearly, people in the industry have a lot of faith in her as a writer. Hopefully, she can craft something the can make fans of the original trilogy fall in love with the movies all over again, let alone validate why we need another TOY STORY movie. I love my stories about toys as much as anyone else, but after what this gang has gone through, you'd think they would learn to just stay in the house and keep to their playtime.

TOY STORY 4 is still aiming for a June 2019 release
