Tyrese Gibson lashes out at Dwayne Johnson for Fast & Furious 9 delay

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Typically, I'm up for adventuring to just about anywhere, but if you invited me to come and get on Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's bad side, brother, you'd best be prepared to make that trip solo. On Wednesday, Fast and Furious actor Tyrese Gibson publically lashed out at his FATE OF THE FURIOUS co-star, Dwayne Johnson, for being the reason that there won't be another film in the franchise until the year 2020.

Gibson, who plays the role of Roman for the fuel-injected franchise, called Johnson out via his personal Instagram account by creating the following post:

Before it was announced that a new Fast and Furious film would not be racing into theaters until 2020, Gibson had reportedly begged Johnson to not contribute to the film's delay. Originally, the movie had been planning for an April 19, 2019 release, so why the delay? Some that are close to the franchise are saying that there's rumor of Universal considering a Hobb's spinoff film, in which Johnson would obviously be the star player.

After hearing word of the rumor, Gibson posted the following message, with the assumption that a spinoff would inevitably delay the filming of another main-line Fast film: “If you move forward with that #Hobbs Movie you will have purposely ignored the heart to heart moment we had in my sprinter,” Gibson he wrote at the time. “I don’t wanna hear from you until you remember what we talked about. I’m on your timeline cause you’re not responding to my text messages – #FastFamily is just that a family…….. We don’t fly solo.”

Yikes! While I can understand Gibson's frustration, I'm not sure that taking his umbrage to Instagram was the best course of action. Considering that this all gets sorted out, the rift between Gibson and Johnson will undoubtedly make for one awkward #FastFamily reunion when it's time to roll cameras. Here's hoping they can hug it out before any pens hit paper.

What do you make of Gibson's comments? Would you be down for a Hobbs spinoff film before another installment of the proper Fast franchise is released? ? Let us know in the comments section below.

For now, it sounds as if FAST & FURIOUS 9 won't be revving up its engine until April 10, 2020.
