According to Variety, Javier Bardem is in talks to join JOY star and reporter scolder Jennifer Lawrence in Darren Aronofsky's new movie. Apparently Bardem was always Aronofsky's top choice for the role, and the director offered him the part once Lawrence officially signed on after dropping out of THE ROSIE PROJECT. The site has also learned that Paramount Pictures will distribute the currently untitled film.

Plot details on Aronofsky's next directorial effort have been scarce, however it will reportedly follow "a couple whose relationship is tested when uninvited guests arrive at their home, disrupting their tranquil existence." Aronofsky will helm the movie from his own script, as well as produce through his Protozoa Pictures banner alongside Scott Franklin and Ari Handel. The filmmaker and the studio are planning on shooting the film this spring for a 2017 release.

Although NOAH wasn't as well-received as the director's previous movies, personally I thought it was fascinating take on the Biblical story, and I'm definitely interested in learning more about his new film.

The upcoming Sean Penn-directed drama THE LAST FACE starring Javier Bardem doesn't have an official release date, but it should hit theaters sometime this year, and Bardem will also appear as Captain Salazar in PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: DEAD MEN TELL NO TALES, which has been set to be released on July 7, 2017.
