It was only a matter of time before Marvel figured out what the hell they were going to do with the Punisher.
Set to introduce the recaptured character during Season Two of DAREDEVIL on Netflix, the plan now appears to spin The Punisher off into his own solo series on the streaming network. According to TVLine, Marvel and Netflix are “this close” to giving the go-ahead to move forward with active development on something revolving around Frank Castle’s brand of vigilante justice, with everyone extremely high on Jon Bernthal‘s portrayal of the character.
As for when a Punisher series might come to fruition, that’s anyone’s guess. There’s a busy slate of Marvel stuff coming down the pipeline for Netflix that some consideration would have to be made as to exactly where the Punisher might slot in. However, one thing is for certain with the way Marvel Television is building their part of the Universe – they are going to keep you busy with their content whenever their films cannot.
The Punisher certainly has a new lease on life since his rights were re-acquired by Marvel.
