Benedict Cumberbatch’s Patrick Melrose series gets release date & sneak peek

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

When he's not channeling ancient magic alongside his fellow Avengers as Doctor Strange, or solving an intricate crime as the legendary detective Sherlock Holmes, Benedict Cumberbatch can often be found contributing to any number of promising cinematic endeavors. Today, SHOWTIME has announced that its new, five-part limited series PATRICK MELROSE will premiere on Saturday, May 12 at 9 p.m. ET/PT.

Based on the acclaimed Patrick Melrose series of semi-autobiographical novels written by Edward St. Aubyn, PATRICK MELROSE is an acerbic and fearless look at the protagonist’s harrowing odyssey from a deeply traumatic childhood to his remarkable survival as an adult. When the show makes its debut, it will present all five parts of the series consecutively, with a new part being being shared one night after the next. Due to the rollout of the program, PATRICK MELROSE is set to become a part of SHOWTIME's new night of original programming.

Cumberbatch, who is also executive producing the series, will be joined on-camera by Jennifer Jason Leigh (ANNIHILATION) and Hugo Weaving (THE MATRIX) as Patrick Melrose's parents. Also set to appear are Anna Madeley (THE CROWN), Blythe Danner (MEET THE FOCKERS), Allison Williams (GET OUT), Pip Torrens (THE CROWN), Jessica Raine (CALL THE MIDWIFE), Prasanna Puwanarajah Holliday Grainger (THE BORGIAS), Indira Varma (GAME OF THRONES) and Celia Imrie (BRIDGET JONE'S BABY). When PATRICK MELROSE arrives, director Edward Berger (JACK) will and screenwriter David Nicholls will dedicate one episode to each novel of the five-part series.
