Jeff Daniels to join the Divergent series for a “key role”

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

The DIVERGENT series, despite not having the same critical and commercial draw as THE HUNGER GAMES, is still trucking along as it prepares to launch into its two-part finale. ALLEGIANT PART 1 and ALLEGIANT PART 2 will close out the series and a key role has just been filled with THR is reporting that Jeff Daniels is closing a deal to appear in both parts.

Jeff Daniels will play David, the leader of the Bureau of Genetic Welfare. As I've not read the books I can't actually tell you how "key" this role is, but casting an actor like Daniels infers that the character will be something special. If there are any fans of the books out there, what do you think of this casting?

Synopsis for ALLEGIANT PART 1 & 2:

After the cataclysmic events in Insurgent, Tris (Woodley) and Four (James) enter a dangerous new world in Allegiant — Parts 1 & 2 that they no longer recognize. As new truths are revealed about the past and future, Tris must face impossible choices about courage, allegiance and love to protect the people closest to her.

Robert Schwentke, who directed INSURGENT, is returning to direct ALLEGIANT PART 1 which will begin shooting in May. As the two parts will actually be filmed separately a director for ALLEGIANT PART 2 has not yet been announced. ALLEGIANT PART 1 is slotted for a March 18, 2016 release.
