Paul W.S. Anderson to direct Monster Hunter movie

Last Updated on July 31, 2021

Speaking of MORTAL KOMBAT, apparently the director of the first film, Paul W.S. Anderson, has a new videogame adaptation he wants to direct called MONSTER HUNTER. This would be his third videogame series he will have adapted, the second being the inexplicably wildly successful RESIDENT EVIL films (which are somehow reaching one billion dollars in box-office revenue).

MONSTER HUNTER is an RPG from Capcom (same company that made the original RESIDENT EVIL games) that's apparently hugely popular in Japan (where their version of Universal Studios has a MONSTER HUNTER ride). It's also really popular in China as well.

Here's the logline:

For every Monster, there is a Hero. An ordinary man in a dead end job discovers that he is actually the descendant of an ancient hero. He must travel to a mystical world to train to become a Monster Hunter, before the mythical creatures from that world destroy ours.

I mean, I'm not too familiar with MONSTER HUNTER myself, but the look is definitely cool, especially the awesome creature designs. It also looks like it could have some bomb-ass, ridiculous action sequences. However, the story sounds very generic and lame, and unless they plan on spending hundreds-of-millions of dollars to realize the true scope of the games, the spectacle might not be enough to eliminate that fact. But who knows? I think Paul W.S. Anderson is a bit underrated, so it could be fun. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

But what do you guys think? Any fans of the games? And if so, what do you think abut the idea of a live-action film?
