Aww, yeah! I love it when SHAFT reboot news comes along. It gives me an excuse to break out my Ibanez and Weeping Demon wah wah pedal with the intention of laying down some sweet and swanky grooves. Earlier today, we'd learned that production has officially begun on the upcoming SHAFT reboot starring Samuel L. Jackson and Jessie T. Usher.
The Tim Story-directed reboot is said to feature Usher as the son of detective John Shaft (Samuel L. Jackson), who after being estranged from his father, finds himself teamed up with him. The young man is an FBI agent, a cyber expert, and the partnership with dad is an uneasy collision of old school meets new school. For the film, Jackson will reprise the role he expertly played in the John-Singleton-directed reboot of the Gordon Parks 1971 original.
On Tuesday, both Jackson and Usher were spotted outside a mosque in Atlanta. Shortly thereafter, Usher shared a brief video of his first rehearsal for the film, in which he walked the beat with three generations of SHAFT royalty.

The latest chapter of the SHAFT saga is scheduled to kick in theater doors beginning on June 14, 2019.
