Where there’s smoke there’s fire, and when it comes to BATTLE OF THE SEXES the smoke was the set of images we reported on not too long ago, and the fire is the first trailer. And what a fire it is, with Emma Stone and Steve Carell looking like they’re gonna own this movie as Billie Jean King and Bobby Riggs. The real-life tennis figures went head-to-head in what was dubbed the Battle of the Sexes, with Riggs' showboating and male-ego failing to get to the steadfast King. Take a look for yourself below!
Stone looks like she could be giving another career-best performance as King, but Carell steals the show in this trailer, perfectly executing the arrogance, showmanship and absolute absurdity of Riggs. Sure, he's a prick, but he's endearing and a bit pathetic, which stops him from coming off as a total villain. There's a real artistry on the cinematography side of thing, which I didn't expect, and overall this is shaping up to be a must-see for the fall season. Who said tennis can't be fun to watch? Everyone? Well, here they'll be wrong!
BATTLE OF THE SEXES arrives September 22.
