A School of Rock TV show is coming to Nickelodeon in 2015

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

It’s been just over 10 years since the Richard Linklater comedy SCHOOL OF ROCK became a hit and cemented Jack Black as a family-friendly comedian. A sequel might have seemed superfluous although it looks as though Nickelodeon is bringing a 13-episode TV series to small screens. Linklater and producer Scott Rudin will serve as executive producers on the TV show with casting to be announced soon. The premise of the show will be the same as the film, following rocker Dewey Finn as he poses as a substitute teacher to teach the ways of rock and roll.

Paramount TV president Amy Powell had this to say:

With Dewey’s outrageous personality and rock star sensibilities taking center stage, School of Rock will be an irresistibly fun show for the whole family.

When she says “Dewey”, I think what she needs to say is Jack Black. I don’t know who they’re going to get to play the lead, but that man will have some mighty big shoes to fill. While I think SCHOOL OF ROCK was an enjoyable flick, I gravitate towards the BEFORE trilogy when I think of Linklater. That is to say, I’m not the target audience for a School of Rock TV show. Still, I’ll be curious to hear about the cast once some contracts are signed.

The School of Rock TV show will go into production this Fall.
