Zach Galifianakis on The Hangover movies: “I wished we had just done one”

THE HANGOVER was a big hit both critically and financially, however the sequels definitely failed to recapture the magic of the first installment. The second movie may have performed well at the box office, earning over $550 million worldwide, but most critics and moviegoers were unimpressed with the follow-up, while the third film ended up being the lowest grossing and rated entry in the comedy trilogy.

Zach Galifianakis has always seemed a little uneasy about THE HANGOVER franchise, and during an appearance on Marc Maron’s WTF podcast, said there probably should have only been one movie.

Look, that was a good chunk of my life that I do not regret at all but I wished we had just done one. I think leave well enough alone sometimes.

Galifianakis went on to jokingly say that, "We’re contracted up to 12. I feel a real appetite out there for more. I mean, in 10 years when all this dries up I’m sure I’ll be knocking on people’s doors, ‘Hey, I got this idea… look, I’m still weird!'"

Personally, I've never been a fan of the Todd Phillips-directed comedies. Although I've enjoyed Galifianakis, Bradley Cooper and Ed Helms in other films, THE HANGOVER movies really didn't do much for me, including the first one. As a whole the series has grossed almost $1.5 billion worldwide, so don't be surprised if in a few years Warner Bros. announces that a sequel/spinoff/reboot is in the works.

Zach Galifianakis can be seen next on the big screen in Greg Mottola's KEEPING UP WITH THE JONESES on April 1, 2016, and he also stars in Jared Hess' MASTERMINDS, which is due out on September 30, 2016.
