Rumor: Will Spider-Man appear in Tom Hardy’s Venom movie after all?

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Is it just me, or can you also recall how adamant Kevin Feige was about Spider-Man not being involved in the making of Tom Hardy's VENOM movie, late last year? I'm not saying that what I'm about to share with you is false, I would just be sure to have your salt shaker handy, and be prepared to season this report with a fair amount of the savory mineral.

According to a recent appearance on Collider's Movie Talk podcast, producer Jon Schnepp says that Sony is recanting its previous claim that Tom Holland's Spider-Man will not appear as a part of VENOM. During the program that went live on Tuesday, Schnepp said that, “Spider-Man is going to be in Venom.” While this statement goes in the face of everything we've learned about VENOM so far, Schnepp elaborated on his claim by adding, “For the last couple of months, we’ve been hearing how Sony is keeping it all separated, and Spider-Man is in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but every other character that’s in the Spider-Man universe is separate. All I’m saying is that Spider-Man—and I’m talking about Tom Holland’s Spider-Man—is going to be in Venom.” Hmm, that sounds more like speculation than fact, to me.

Not long ago, I was of the mind that it would be very difficult to make a Venom film without the friendly neighborhood wall-crawler taking part in the action. However, since learning that the project is aiming for an R-rating, and is being described as a horror film, I've started to see how inserting Holland's happy-go-lucky Spider-Man might not fit into director Ruben Fleischer's particular vision.

Do you think there's any merit to Schnepp's report? Do you still want Spidey to play a part in the Hardy-led Venom movie, or have you become content with it doing it's own thing after months of being told the web-head won't be swinging into the fray? Let us know your thoughts on the matter in the comments section below.
