Showtime orders new animated series centered on Trump from Stephen Colbert

Yuge news, everybody! Much of what I'm about to tell you comes by way of a press release from SHOWTIME.

Today, David Nevins, President and CEO, Showtime Networks Inc. announced that SHOWTIME has given a 10-episode order to a new untitled half-hour animated series executively produced by multiple Emmy winner and late night host Stephen Colbert. The satirical half-hour series will star two-dimensional avatars of President Donald Trump along with members of the most powerful family in the world. Set to premiere on SHOWTIME this fall, the fresh, cutting-edge comedy will present the truish adventures of Trump’s confidants and bon vivants – family, top associates, heads of government, golf pros and anyone else straying into his orbit – intrepidly exploring their histories and their psyches, revealing insights into what makes them so definitively Trumpian. The show will be presented as a workplace comedy where the office happens to be oval; it’s a character study in search of character, as seen through the eyes of an imaginary documentary crew.

In talking about the project, Stephen Colbert commented, "I know a lot of people wanted to do this, and I'm honored that the Cartoon President invited our documentary crew into his private world. I've seen some of the footage, and I look forward to sharing the man behind the MAGA."

The show was inspired by the animated opening segment of STEPHEN COLBERT’S LIVE ELECTION NIGHT DEMOCRACY’S SERIES FINALE: WHO’S GOING TO CLEAN UP THIS SH*T? special. The Trump character has also been known to make appearances on Stephen's late night gig, THE LATE SHOW WITH STEPHEN COLBERT. The bespectacled comedian will serve as the show's executive producer along with his late night co-worker Chris Licht. The animation team behind the show are hoping to execute fast turn-around times for episodes, as the directive of the show is to feature events that are as current as possible.

“Stephen and Chris have an uncanny genius for deconstructing the world of President Trump, and this series opens a new realm for them,” David Nevins said, “Their vision will produce a comedy that makes waves, gets attention and plays great on our networks, including our streaming service.”

The yet-to-be-titled animated show featuring President Trump, his family, and calamitous constituents will premiere on SHOWTIME this fall.
