Comic Con: Top 10 Coolest Posters/Banners

Last Updated on August 3, 2021

We’re always on the lookout for cool artwork at Comic-Con, but honestly San Diego was a little light this year in terms of new or unique posters and banners. Most major films with a convention presence like ENDER’S GAME, HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE or ESCAPLE PLAN all brought posters we’d seen months ago.

Regardless, we still tracked down ten cool pieces of art that’ll give you a little bit of the experience you can only get at Comic-Con.

#1 – Guardians of the Galaxy

This gets the top spot, not only because it gives us a kickass first look at the characters from Marvel’s most intriguing upcoming film, but also because it’s actually NEW. Pretty much all of the posters or artwork had already appeared online prior to the Con, but they saved this bad boy for the panel on Saturday and debuted it on the floor on Sunday. Thanks, Marvel!

#2 – Godzilla

Gareth Edward’s GODZILLA had a big presence at the Con this year, including an entire “Godzilla Experience.” (Click here to read Paul Shirey’s report from that.) But they also had some fun with life-size building wraps that gave San Diegons a visual taste of the monster-sized destruction to come next summer.

#3 – Captain America: The Winter Soldier

While similar in presentation to the previous Thor poster, this production artwork for the Captain America sequel—featuring the two title characters battling it out, some SHIELD firepower and the Falcon’s aerial action—is infinitely cooler. Plus, Steve Rogers’ ride is pretty sweet.

#4 – Thor: The Dark World

Each day Marvel would change out the main artwork at their booth and Wednesday’s Preview Night featured the Thor teaser poster accented with two Asgardian guards watching over Mjolnir. No Natalie Portman, but we take what we can get.

#5 – Bullet

This movie is apparently called BULLET and stars Danny Trejo and Breaking Bad’s Jonathan Banks. The poster has Trejo snarling and firing a gun. That’s all I need.

#6 – The Amazing Spider-Man 2

While it might have been cooler to have everyone’s favorite wallcrawler actually scaling the buildings (next year, Sony?), we’ll still take giant-sized Spidey and Electro.

#7 – The Walking Dead (Comic)

Robert Kirkman’s hugely popular comic series turns 10 this year and Image Comics had their own booth to help them celebrate their birthday with a cool new banner and plenty of giveaways.

#8 – Carrie

While we didn’t get to see much of CARRIE at the Con (no panel or star presence), this striking outdoor poster definitely caught your eye on the way to the Convention Center. (Even if the tagline makes me think of Walter White.)

#9 – Lucasfilm

You can’t have a Comic-Con list without something Star Wars-related. While they didn’t have anything from EPISODE VII ready to go, Lucasfilm did have plenty to show off from the Original Trilogy, including this interesting illustrated banner.

#10 – I, Frankenstein

This poster for Aaron Eckhart’s “sexy monster” movie almost had me until I looked closer and saw it said, “From the producers of UNDERWORLD.” Nice try!

Honorable Mention: The Lego Movie

This technically isn’t a poster, but a recreation of the Lego Movie logo made entirely out of Legos seems much more appropriate than traditional 2D artwork.
