Top 10 Movie Trailers of 2012

Last Updated on August 3, 2021

Movie Trailers: Teasers, Theatrical, TV Spots, International, Domestic, Featurettes – they are a preview of what’s coming next to our local movie screens. We look at them with anticipation, joy, and horror as we play them over and over scrutinizing each frame and proclaiming our love or hate for what it represents. Everyone has an opinion on what makes a good movie trailer and I’m sure my list may not match up to anyone else’s; that’s fine. At the end of the day we’re all just fans of this great invention: the cinema.

#1: Iron Man 3

Tony Stark uses his ingenuity to fight those who destroyed his private world and soon goes up against his most powerful enemy yet: the Mandarin.

#2: The Dark Knight Rises

Eight years on, a new terrorist leader, Bane, overwhelms Gotham’s finest, and the Dark Knight resurfaces to protect a city that has branded him an enemy.

#3: The Great Gatsby

Nick Carraway, a Midwesterner now living on Long Island, finds himself fascinated by the mysterious past and lavish lifestyle of his neighbor, Jay Gatsby. He is drawn into Gatsby’s circle, becoming a witness to obsession and tragedy. Lush, sexy and on the money.

#4: The Avengers

Nick Fury of S.H.I.E.L.D. brings together a team of super humans to form The Avengers to help save the Earth from Loki and his army. Hulk Smash!

#5: Prometheus

A team of explorers discover a clue to the origins of mankind on Earth, leading them on a journey to the darkest corners of the universe. There, they must fight a terrifying battle to save the future of the human race. Quite possibly better than the film itself.

#6: Skyfall

Bond’s loyalty to M is tested as her past comes back to haunt her, bringing MI6 under attack. The best Bond movie yet!

#7: Les Miserables

In 19th-century France, Jean Valjean, who for decades has been hunted by the ruthless policeman Javert after he breaks parole, agrees to care for factory worker Fantine’s daughter, Cosette. The fateful decision changes their lives forever. Authentic and powerful vision of the story.

#8: Star Trek Into Darkness

After the crew of the Enterprise find an unstoppable force of terror from within their own organization, Captain Kirk leads a manhunt to a war-zone world to capture a one man weapon of mass destruction. Picks up right after the last movie seamlessly!

#9: Man of Steel

An alien infant is raised on Earth, and grows up with superhuman abilities. He sets out to use these abilities to guard his adopted world. Finally a trailer that gives me hope the movie won’t suck.

#10 (TIE): Oblivion

One of the few remaining drone repairmen assigned to Earth, its surface devastated after decades of war with the alien Scavs, discovers a crashed spacecraft with contents that bring into question everything he believed about the war, and may even put the fate of mankind in his hands. Tom Cruise’s hands, dude’s pretty capable.

#10 (TIE): Pacific Rim

Director Guillermo del Toro is back and this time he’s bringing giant monsters and robots with him!
