Sony grabs wildcard drama Foxcatcher starring Channing Tatum, Mark Ruffalo, and Steve Carell

I know we’ve talked about Bennett Miller’s FOXCATCHER before but have we really talked about it? I feel like no one has noticed how crazy this films seems.

So first you look at the title: “What could that be referencing?” Then you notice that the cast is a little, well, different: Channing Tatum, Mark Ruffalo, Steve Carell, Sienna Miller, Vanessa Redgrave and Anthony Michael Hall. Hey there, Anthony, Michael Hall haven’t seen you in anything legit since THE DARK KNIGHT. Scroll down to the plot: “The gripping, true story of Olympic Wrestling Champion brothers Mark Schultz (Tatum) and Dave Schultz (Ruffalo) and their relationship with the eccentric John du Pont (Carell), heir to the du Pont Chemical fortune that led to murder. Plus one of the script writers is E. Max Frye who did a handful of flicks in the 80s and 90s like SOMETHING WILD and AMOS & ANDREW. Curiouser and curiouser…

Then I see this:

FOXCATCHER becomes more clear. It’s the team name. Also, I know it’s a drama but the picture makes it look like an unintentional comedy.

After being in development for so long the film finally got made and has now found a home at Sony Pictures. Miller said this about the film finding a new home, “I’ve been discussing FOXCATCHER with Michael and Tom since I began researching the story in 2005 and it’s always been my hope and expectation that they would distribute the film. Their passion and understanding of what FOXCATCHER could be and their ability to market unique and complex films makes SPC the ideal home for me. They were great partners on CAPOTE, and I’m thrilled to be back with SPC.”

I can’t wait to see what the hell this movie turns out to be like when it hits on December 20th.
