Sony sets release dates for Silver & Black, Soldado & more

Now that SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING is a bona fide smash, Sony is looking to capitalize in a big way by kicking off its own Spidey-verse with VENOM and SILVER & BLACK movies, and the latter officially has a new release date of February 8, 2019. The movie will follow VENOM (starring Tom Hardy), which is currently set for October 5, 2018.

In other release date news out of Sony, the upcoming sequel to SICARIO, SOLDADO, has secured a release date of July 29, 2018. The movie that stars Josh Brolin and Benicio Del Toro moves in the place of Sony’s planned BARBIE movie with Anne Hathaway, which is now set for August 8, 2018.

As well, a date was also announced for the new Will Ferrell/John C. Reilly comedy, HOLMES AND WATSON, which is set for November 9, 2018. In more disappointing news, the planned blockbuster sequel BAD BOYS FOR LIFE, which was set to re-team Will Smith and Martin Lawrence, has been completely pulled from the schedule.

Sony seems to want to get a move on with their Marvel movie universe with such close release dates, with VENOM coming in a little over a year and S&B following soon after. This doesn’t give Sony much time to re-establish faith if VENOM fails to meet its lofty expectations, as many already have doubts they won’t be able to make a legitimate series without Spider-Man in the mix. We will know more in the next year or so, and hopefully, Sony has its head on straight when it comes to the franchise building. One look at THE DARK TOWER is evidence to the contrary.
