Gina Rodriguez to star as Carmen Sandiego in upcoming Netflix film

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

Shortly after wondering where in the world she was in Alex Garland's ANNIHILATION, JANE THE VIRGIN actress Gina Rodriguez now finds herself on board to star as Carmen Sandiego for Netflix's upcoming film based on the character.

In addition to starring as the trixy globe-trotter, Rodriguez will also produce the feature via her I Can and I Will label alongside Kevin Misher and Caroline Fraser who will also produce. The movie is being set as a standalone venture featuring the mysterious criminal, Carmen. In the past, Carmen Sandiego has appeared in a series of story-driven computer games that presented players with a unique opportunity for adventure while engaging with subjects such as history, mathematics, language arts, and geography. The Carmen Sandiego series was later adapted for TV by way of the program Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego on PBS. From there, the franchise grew to include a novel series, comics, and much more featuring Agent Sandiego's most beloved capers.

Little is known in regard to how Netflix will frame the upcoming film, though if they were to ask me, I would suggest giving the character an ATOMIC BLONDE meets UNCHARTED vibe. You can have that one for free, Netflix, as I expect great things when one of the slickest thieves of the 1980s gets rebooted for a new generation of geographically-challenged individuals.

We'll be sure to bring you more details on CARMEN SANDIEGO as they become known. In the meantime, do you have a favorite Carmen Sandiego advenute? Let us know in the comments section below.
