The 2012 Golden Schmoes nominees are announced!

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

First of all, thanks to everyone who voted for their favorites! The official nominations for the 12th Annual JoBlo.com Movie Awards (aka the Golden Schmoes) have now been compiled and the final voting will begin on Monday (February 11 – 21), so sharpen your fingernails and get ready to vote for your faves. The winners will be announced on Friday, February 22nd, just two days before those darn “Oscar thingies” are handed out.

No records were broken this year in terms of the most nominations of all-time (that record still belongs to INCEPTION with 19 noms in 2010 with INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS in 2nd place with 18 noms in 2009 and THE DARK KNIGHT in 3rd spot with 16 noms), but there was a nice balance achieved this year with films like DJANGO UNCHAINED and THE DARK KNIGHT RISES getting 13 nominations each, the most of any film, followed closely by THE AVENGERS with 12 noms.

Tarantino always does well at the Golden Schmoes — BASTERDS won “Favorite Movie” in 2009 while KILL BILL: VOLUME II was runner-up for the same in 2004 — but Nolan ain’t no slouch either. BATMAN BEGINS won “Favorite Movie” in 2005, THE DARK KNIGHT won in 2008 and INCEPTION won in 2010! The dude even won 6 Golden Schmoes awards, including the “Most Underrated Movie of the Year”, for his first major film MEMENTO back in 2001 (the only film to get more awards that year was Peter Jackson’s THE FELLOWSHIP OF THE RING).

The two other “big flicks” to receive major nominations were SKYFALL and PROMETHEUS with 8 nominations each, followed by THE CABIN IN THE WOODS with 7 noms, LOOPER and SSILVER LININGS PLAYBOOK with 6 noms each while ARGO and DREDD 3D had 5 noms respectively. I was personally very happy to see CABIN, DREDD and LOOPER with so many nominations. Way to vote, schmoes!

Last year, DRIVE led the nominations with 15 but ended up winning only 6 of them, although in its defence, that was the most wins from any film last year.

The Dark Knight Rises ((13)

We will also be running our 13TH ANNUAL OSCAR PREDICTION CONTEST this year, so stay tuned for that as well. See previous years’ GOLDEN SCHMOES winners below, along with this year’s crop of nominations per category. Thanks for participating!!
