Morpheus reportedly being eyed as center of new Matrix movie

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

Not too long ago we got word that Warner Bros. was looking into rebooting THE MATRIX series, and a few days ago writer Zak Penn said it was not a reboot, but an exploration of other storylines in the massive universe.  It may seem like a lot of this is coming fast, because it is, and now there’s another hint about where the movie could be heading, and it’s down a path you could probably expect.

According to BirthMoviesDeath, several independent sources are saying that WB is looking to make the new MATRIX movie about the character of Morpheus, and would star Michael B. Jordan. Jordan’s name was included in the original report, so a movie focusing on the character (originally played by Laurence Fishburne) would make sense. Their report also states that a writer’s room has been established to play around with different stories, citing that a Morpheus movie is just an idea, but one that WB is very interested in.

Of course this should all be taken with a grain of salt, as the news around a potential “reboot” is very early to begin with, so where exactly they’re going with it is still in the most infantile of stages. This also comes off news of Keanu Reeves saying he would be down to come back, but only if the Wachowskis were involved, which the original report claims they currently aren’t.

I don’t know what to make of this report. On one hand it would make sense to Jordan to play a younger Morpheus, but on the other I don’t care and just want them to leave the MATRIX series alone. At the most this is just an idea to let twirl around in your head, and the idea is probably far from reality. Still, it could be cool to see Jordan learning kung-fu. But who would teach Keanu Reeves's teacher? Twist!
