A new month brings a wealth of new Blu-ray and DVD releases, so now's a great time to play catch-up and see what we have ahead of us in the month of August! You can always head to our BLU-RAY AND DVD RELEASE DATES section for a more complete list, but in this column we'll go over some of the more popular titles hitting shelves over the next 5 weeks!

August 2

The start of this month should please fans of Key and Peele as their first film, KEANU, streets on August 2nd! If you're looking for something much more tame, you can check out Jason Sudeikis collecting a paycheck alongside Jennifer Aniston, Kate Hudson and Julia Roberts in MOTHER’S DAY. THE LOBSTER, starring Colin Farrell and Rachel Weisz, gives viewers a love story unlike any you've ever seen. Definitely recommended!

August 9

Stephen King fans will want to check out 11.22.63 this week, starring James Franco, which was previously only available on Hulu. Otherwise, if you're looking for the most beloved actor alive, Tom Hanks' A HOLOGRAM FOR A KING also hits shelves. If you're diggin' DC's television output more than their feature-films, the first season of Supergirl also hits this week.

August 16

The wait is over! ANGRY BIRDS is here! You may scoff, but this animated venture managed to bring in more than $300 million worldwide! On the other hand, if you don't have kids, you might want to get your TV fix with releases like Once Upon a Time: Season 5 or Gotham.

August 23

If you couldn't tell already, we here at JoBlo are quite partial to the Shane Black comedy, THE NICE GUYS. Featuring Russell Crowe and Ryan Gosling as one of the most charsmatic match-ups you'll see this year, this flick brought in some measly numbers in theaters. Hopefully it'll fare better on Blu-ray! You can also get some decent gore with the 6th season of The Walking Dead, season 1 of Ash vs Evil Dead, and The Strain: Season 2.

August 30

Rounding out the month would be Jon Favreau's remake of the animated classic, THE JUNGLE BOOK. You can also fire up some Star Wars action with Season 2 of Rebels. Or, ya know, if you're feeling particularly brave, you can bring on the vomit-inducing ME BEFORE YOU. However, I'd recommend one of the better shows on TV, Shameless: Season 6. Even if there's nothing here that whets your appetite, there's always September to look forward to!
