The world is dying in trailer for the final season of The Strain

The Strain Corey Stoll TV

After three seasons of fighting the strigoi, things aren't looking good for Dr. Ephraim Goodweather (Corey Stoll) and his merry band of vampire slayers. Nine months have passed since the explosion at the end of the previous season triggered a global nuclear apocalypse, and the resulting nuclear winter has allowed the strigoi to move about during the daytime and left The Master free to establish a totalitarian regime. Although I would never count The Strain among my favourite television series and likely won't revisit it once the show concludes, I still enjoy it for the silly ride that it is, especially when you throw in some gruesome effects and the awesome David Bradley as Professor Abraham Setrakian.

Take a gander at the new trailer for The Strain's upcoming fourth and final season, but be warned, it closes with a scene which is either a huge spoiler or a dream sequence. Place your bets.

Speaking of The Strain, one of its former cast-members has just joined up with the upcoming DEADPOOL sequel. Jack Kesy, who played rockstar and vampire acolyte Gabriel Bolivar, will be playing a major villain in the David Leitch film. It's not yet known which villain Kesy will play, but sources are hinting that the actor will be stepping into the role of Black Tom, a sinister fellow with the ability to manipulate, bond with, and project energy through plant life.

Preying on the fears of the populace, the Master and his minions have created an unsettling alliance in "The Partnership." The majority of humans are now working for the strigoi, operating with a single understanding – collaborate or die. With the world in disarray and our heroes disbanded, each of them will have to overcome personal hardship and defy death for even the smallest chance at fighting back. All the while, the Master reigns supreme, furthering his scheme for the end of the world as we know it. In the face of annihilation…do our heroes have what it takes to save humankind?

The final season of The Strain will return to FX on July 16, 2017.
