As the summer winds down (Thank God as it wasn't good this year), it's time to start transitioning into awards season. This is when Hollywood typically positions the films on its slate that it thinks might have a chance to compete for Oscars and guild awards galore, and there will be a ton of them coming our way in the next few months.

However, The Weinstein Company today fired a shot across the bow at other potential contenders this year as they gave us our first look at LION. This real-life tale, directed by Garth Davis, stars Dev Patel, Rooney Mara and Nicole Kidman and takes us on an incredible journey about a young Indian man who seeks to find his family and his true home after being separated for most of his life.

Five-year-old Saroo gets lost on a train which takes him thousands of Kilometers across India, away from home and family. Saroo must learn to survive alone in Kolkata, before ultimately being adopted by an Australian couple. Twenty-five years later, armed with only a handful of memories, his unwavering determination, and a revolutionary technology known as Google Earth, he sets out to find his lost family and finally return to his first home.

This is certainly going to be one of those movies that puts you through the emotional ringer. Hell, I was going through a range of emotions at two-plus minutes of the trailer. I can only imagine what I'm going to be feeling as I get to know these characters and find a deeper connection to Patel's search. It does look fantastic though.

LION opens in theaters this November.
