Tessa Thompson says that there’s interest in an all-female Marvel movie

The third phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe will come to a close with AVENGERS 4, and Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has said that we'll then look at the franchise as "two distinct periods. Everything before Avengers 4 and everything after." We're not yet sure exactly what form the next phase of the MCU will take, but if Tessa Thompson has her way, one of the projects will be an AVENGERS-style team-up of all the female heroes in the franchise. Thompson, along with several other Marvel actresses, approached Kevin Feige last year to give voice to their desire for a "movie with some female super heroes," to which Feige agreed with, and it seems that the project is still of interest over at Marvel.

IGN caught up with Tessa Thompson on the red-carpet of ANNIHILATION, and Thompson weighed in on the projects chances.

I'm not Marvel so I can't make it happen, but I can tell you that Marvel is hugely collaborative, I think our even our Thor [Ragnarok] movie was basically the product of conversations they'd had with Chris [Hemsworth] and with Mark [Ruffalo] about what they wanted to do next. I think [Marvel boss] Kevin Feige is really excited by the idea, and if you look at what's happened already in Phase 4 with me and [Thompson's character] Valkyrie and our story, and then in Black Panther the women rule supreme. There's an interest – they're doing Captain Marvel, they're doing a Black Widow – there's an interest in having women at the forefront of this phase. I feel like it's hopeful, who knows.

There are certainly more than enough female heroes to make the project work, in addition to Tessa Thompson's Valkyrie, the potential team could also include Scarlett Johansson's Black Widow, Evangeline Lilly's Wasp, Zoe Saldana's Gamora, Karen Gillan's Nebula, Pom Klementieff's Mantis, Elizabeth Olsen's Scarlet Witch, Jaimie Alexander's Lady Sif, and Brie Larson's Captain Marvel. Given how long it took to get a BLACK WIDOW film off the ground, I'm not about to hold my breath, but it certainly would be something.

You'll soon be able to check out Tessa Thompson in THOR: RAGNAROK in your very own home, as the Marvel flick will hit Digital on February 20th and DVD/Blu-ray/4K Ultra HD on March 6, 2018.
