First photo of Hawk & Dove reveals outstanding comic-to-screen accuracy

A few week's back, we got our first look at Brenton Thwaites as Robin for Warner Bros. Television's forthcoming live-action TITANS series. As a long-time fan of Bruce Wayne's trusty ward-turned-vigalante hero, I must say that I'm thoroughly impressed with how comic-accurate Thwaites costume is. Today, the WB has unleashed a photo of Alan Ritchson and Minka Kelly as heroes Hawk and Dove, respectively. As you can see, Hawk is sporting a look akin to Steve Ditko's original design, while Dove's outfit appears to have been directly inspired by Deadpool co-creator Rob Leifeld's design from the '80s. Each of the costumes were designed by Laura Jean Shannon, who's worked as a costume designer on such films as IRON MAN, SCOTT PILGRIM VS. THE WORLD, PREACHER, and much more.

You can check out the costumes for yourself below:

The heroes, known to the public as Hank Hall and Dawn Granger, are set to appear as recurring characters on the TITANS television show. Both heroes were first introduced as a way representing the emerging political divides of the 1960s in the pages of DC comics. The two shared viewpoints that were diametrically-opposed to one another, yet they found a way to set aside their differences and work together as one in the name of justice and peace. As for their powers, both Hawk and Dove were granted their abilities by the Lords of Chaos and Order, a grouping of supernatural entities in the DC universe that wield godlike powers. Hawk is viewed as an agent of anger while Dove is a bringer of calm and strategy.

Earlier this year, it was announced that instead of airing on TNT, TITANS would be moved to DC's digital service, along with YOUNG JUSTICE: OUTSIDERS, the third season of the studio's smash-hit animated series. An animated series featuring Daddy's Little Monster, Harley Quinn, is also currently in development for the streamer.

Personally, I'm loving the design of these costumes. It's obvious that Shannon is a master of her craft, and truly cares about bringing fans the genuine article with regard to superheroes on screen. The gouges in Hawk's costume point to his rough-and-tumble nature, while Dove's pristine appearance is a direct reflection of her repuation for encouraging peacful resoltuions to violence. Great stuff!

From executive producers Akiva Goldsman, Geoff Johns, Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter, TITANS is an all-new live-action drama series that follows a group of young soon-to-be Super Heroes recruited from every corner of the DC Universe. In this action-packed series, Dick Grayson emerges from the shadows to become the leader of a fearless band of new heroes, including Starfire, Raven and many others. TITANS is a dramatic, live-action adventure series that will explore and celebrate one of the most popular comic book teams ever.
