First pretty-looking trailer for Terrence Malick’s To The Wonder with Ben Affleck and Rachel McAdams arrives

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

The first trailer for director Terrence Malick’s TO THE WONDER has hit, showing off the usual visual punch of his work and every bit the elusive narration.  Starring Ben Affleck, Rachel McAdams, Olga Kurylenko, and Javier Bardem, the film is a romantic drama, a first for Malick.  TO THE WONDER premiered at TIFF earlier this year and our review wasn’t exactly glowing.  To me, the film looks like it will be a lot of laughing, hugging, twilrling, and staring, with shreds of dialogue presented as poetry.  It’s, y’know, supposed to make you “think” and stuff.

Malick is a visionary director, no doubt.  I enjoyed THE THIN RED LINE and TREE OF LIFE has its merits, but oftentimes watching his films can be a chore.  TO THE WONDER has just been added to my homework list.

Twirl away:

Here’s the synopsis:

After visiting Mont Saint-Michel, Marina and Neil come to Oklahoma, where problems arise. Marina meets a priest and fellow exile, who is struggling with his vocation, while Neil renews his ties with a childhood friend, Jane.

TO THE WONDER will premiere in the UK on February 22, 2013 and will debut in the US on April 12, 2013.
