Emojis come to life in the first teaser for The Emoji Movie

THE EMOJI MOVIE aims to unlock the never-before-seen secret world inside your smartphone. Hidden within the messaging app is Textopolis, a bustling city where all your favorite emojis live, hoping to be selected by the phone’s user. In this world, each emoji has only one facial expression – except for Gene, an exuberant emoji who was born without a filter and is bursting with multiple expressions. I know you’re just bursting with excitement to know how the rest of the story pans out, but first, check out the teaser trailer.

I think this teaser is not only what we would expect from an Emoji movie, but also oddly mirroring our feelings about it. To that I say, “At least Sony Pictures Entertainment knows!” People will be quick to *insert emoji here* on this movie, but it really doesn’t look like it’ll be any different than any other animated film capitalizing on the youth of today, like THE ANGRY BIRDS MOVIE or TROLLS. THE EMOJI MOVIE won’t hit theaters until next August, so I’m not sure who Sony thinks they’re going to get hyped this far out, but there ya have it!

THE EMOJI MOVIE will be released on August 4, 2017.
