A feature-film adaptation of Naughty Dog's "Uncharted" video-game franchise has been in development for nearly a decade, but now, after countless delays and numerous creative talents coming and going, it seems that the UNCHARTED movie is back on track with a new director at the helm.

Deadline reports that Sony Pictures has set Shawn Levy (REAL STEEL) up as the director of the long-awaited UNCHARTED movie. The "Uncharted" series follows the adventures of Nathan Drake, a famed explorer and treasure hunter who travels the globe collecting ancient artifacts and solving puzzles, all while getting into all sorts of cinematic shenanigans which involve scores of bad guys, bullets and explosions. The most recent game in the series, "Uncharted 4: A Thief's End", was released earlier this year to both critical praise and lots of cold hard cash , which seemingly set the stage for Sony to push forward with the UNCHARTED movie. Joe Carnahan signed on the pen the script this summer with an eye to direct, but once BAD BOYS FOR LIFE came calling, Carnahan departed and the UNCHARTED movie was pulled from Sony's schedule just last month.

Over the past year Shawn Levy has been busy busy executive producing and directing several episodes of Netflix's Stranger Things. He'll continue to fill the same roles for the upcoming second season of the series, but he'll also be juggling casting for the UNCHARTED movie at the same time. You folks spoke up earlier this year in a Cast This! article to decide who should take on the role of Nathan Drake with Nathan Fillion, Scott Eastwood and Jensen Ackles among the finalists.

Any new names to suggest for the lead of UNCHARTED?
