HBO orders the new comedy Vice Principals from Danny McBride and Jody Hill

HBO is moving forward with what sounds like another great show to its already growing slate of comedies. The network has ordered a pitch from the creators of EASTBOUND & DOWN Danny McBride and Jody Hill called VICE PRINCIPALS. The generous straight to series order will see 18 episodes likely split up into multiple seasons. Eastbound producer and director David Gordon Green (PINEAPPLE EXPRESS, JOE PRINCE AVALANCHE) is also set to executive produce.

As you might guess from the title, the new comedy will tell the story of a high school and the people that almost run it, the vice principals. “HBO was the perfect creative family for Eastbound & Down and we’re excited to pack up the van for the next adventure,” noted McBride in the release. Added executive producer Green: “When the idea for the new series became too crazy to keep to ourselves, we knew HBO was the perfect place to unleash it.”

Last month HBO launched the great new Mike Judge series SILICON VALLEY and the network is developing a new comedy with SNL alum Bill Hader. If you’re already watching VEEP then you know what great choices the network can make when it comes to getting laughs. Then there is GIRLS, which proves they all can’t be winners. I can't wait to check this one out; I'm a huge fan of EASTBOUND & DOWN and I'm already smiling thinking about the crazy stuff McBride could get up to when running a school.

How excited are you for VICE PRINCIPALS?
