New Matrix not a reboot or remake after all, according to writer Zak Penn

Last Updated on July 31, 2021

Like most kids who grew up in the '90s, I love THE MATRIX. Hell, I still wear black trenchcoats because of it (well, also, because it hides my weight). I'm even a MATRIX sequel apologist, as while I don't think they hold a candle to the first film (which is a masterpiece), they are still fun movies with some great things in them, like the freeway car chase in RELOADED and the final fight in the rain in REVOLUTIONS.

Anyway, when WB announced that the MATRIX was getting a reboot from writer Zak Penn, people freaked the fuck out. Can you blame them? While I don't have a problem with reboots or remakes per se (because a lot of them have been great), most are admittedly underwhelming or terrible.

Well, recently Penn went on twitter to set the record straight:

This all honestly sounds fine to me, if unnecessary. I mean, you don't need to tell more stories in THE MATRIX, but as long as you're not doing a prequel or reboot, I'm at least more willing to give it a chance.

But what do you Schmoes think? You done for more stories in THE MATRIX, ala X-MEN spin-offs? Or would you rather leave well enough alone? Sound off below!
