Jon Favreau confirms Star Wars show will take place after Return of the Jedi

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Jon Favreau has made a lot of money for Disney, conquering two of their landscapes. He kicked off the MCU in a big way with IRON MAN in 2008 and directed the incredible THE JUNGLE BOOK back in 2016. Now he’s on to the next frontier by creating a show set in the Star Wars universe, and while at the premiere of SOLO: A STAR WARS STORY last night confirmed some details about his upcoming project.

Favreau, who has a voice role in SOLO, spoke with Dan Casey on the red carpet and confirmed that his series will take place seven years after the Battle of Endor in RETURN OF THE JEDI, but before the events of THE FORCE AWAKENS. As well, the show will use some of the cutting-edge technology used on JUNGLE BOOK (and his new movie, THE LION KING).

Favreau was hired to work on a new show earlier this year saying, “If you told me at 11 years old that I would be getting to tell stories in the Star Wars universe, I wouldn’t have believed you. I can’t wait to embark upon this exciting adventure.”

Lucasfilm’s Kathleen Kennedy spoke very highly of Favreau saying he “brings the perfect mix of producing and writing talent, combined with a fluency in the Star Wars universe.”

We don’t know when his show will be coming out, but chances are he will really get to work on it after he’s done with LION KING which is set for next summer. On top of that, he also has the sequel to JUNGLE BOOK on the way, so the man will certainly be busy for a while. Would it be too much to predict the show arriving in 2020? You know what, I don’t care what you think. That’s my prediction and I’m sticking to it!

SOLO: A STAR WARS STORY is in theaters May 25.
