THE DARK KNIGHT is currently ranked at #1 on IMDb.com's all-time top 250 list. It now sits pretty above THE GODFATHER, THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION and THE GODFATHER II. As we reported, the movie just pulled in some major coin at the box office, smashing SPIDERMAN 3's all-time biggest weekend opening in the process.

In other news, the film has also been reported to have strange healing properties that scientists are looking into as possible alternative cancer treatments, and as a supermodel aphrodesiac. When reached for a comment, the Almighty winked, gave a thumbs up and said "you're welcome, guys".

That said, we're talking about IMDB here. The same website that saw Joblo's April Fool's article about Kate Beckinsale being cast as Wonder Woman (back when Joss Whedon was still working on it) and ran it as fact.

I think that right there just goes to show you how much IMDB is to be trusted.

I dunno, I loved The Dark Knight and everything but I really think if IMDb wants its list to be taken a little more seriously then it should tighten the criteria for what can and can't make it onto the top 250.

Maybe a flick should have to be out for say, 3 to 6 months before it can be considered. I mean, just to put things in perspective, this time last year Die Hard 4 had a spot somewhere on the list. It even made it into the top 100 I think.

So yeah, maybe they should just wait a while for the opening weekend frenzy to cool down before considering it for the top 250. The real test of a film's quality isn't how it's thought of on opening weekend, but how it's thought of 10 or more years down the track.

As I said, I loved The Dark Knight and would definitely put it somewhere in my own personal Top 50 list, but its position at #1 now is nothing more than hype, which kinda detracts from the credibility of that list.

Case in point: Titanic used to be at #1

...but you can't blame math for doing its job. People see the movie and immediately vote on IMDB, it's that simple. I don't think everyone was rating it based on, "well, was it better than The Godfather?" Of course not. You can expect to see any movie with enough hype, star-power and appeal that does WELL to get in the Top 10 of that IMDB list. It doesn't translate anywhere close to the AFI Top Films. Everyone chill.

I had no idea people took the IMDB 250 so seriously. This will average out as time goes on. Several movies jump into the 250 in their first weekend and then drift off. I personally did give DK a 10 because I give movies a 10 that completely satisfy me and that I have few to no problems with. But that's the problem with IMDB, that is my scale that I vote by. They don't have a stated scale for what voting for a given movie means. I vote for a film based on it's own merits, others might vote based on comparison with other movies or place in movie history. All could be right, but IMDB doesn't tell us. As such their list basically means nothing. And, like Peter Griffin, I did not care for The Godfather.

Biased opinions are cool, so long as you put it that way. People jumping off a cliff in ecstasy yelling TDK is the best thing since, whatever, take it or leave it is kind of silly. I love Batman as a character, and I've enjoyed bits and pieces of the incarnations to film and animation over the years, but no one has made a complete masterpiece, in my opinion, with the material yet. Nolan had the right idea, but again, in my opinion he didn't put together to make a believable and thrilling piece of entertainment. And the worst part is that even most fanboys will agree with the films flaws, and yet with a biased attitude just state that its bar none a great film. I guess its fine for those guys, but I want a better movie. So lay the issues out at least, what worked, what didn't, so next time around we get something better. And believe that something better then this is possible.

Talk about people getting swept away in the hype. Overtaking The Godfather? Yeah, talk about premature. This movie, in my eyes, doesn't even come close to possessing the same sort of staying power as a film like The Godfather.

By the way, the film has been released all ready so is there any way to shit-can all of these Batman articles? I count four different Batman-related articles/reviews for today alone. Enough is enough.

Is that really too much to ask? Just move on.

Now i can completely understand why people are getting upset about this. But look.. It was a great film. It is personally one of my favortie movies of all time, maybe my favorite. Now, I dont think that it is the BEST movie of all time, but because I love batman, I am inclined to favor it even more. Realistically, I see it in the top ten all time best. Judging by the critics reviews, the yahoo user ratings, joblo's poll question, and my personal feelings, it has to be. Anyone who disagrees... its ok. You are allowed your opinion, but don't hate on ours, ok?

Seriously? A movie that has only been out for four days is the best movie ever made in the history of movie-making? C'mon people! I know it is a big movie, but give me a break. I doubt the story will ever have the staying power of films like "The Godfather" and "Shawshank." This is nothing more than an attempt by the fanboys to prove their point: that comic books are a viable literary form--which I agree with. But there is no way on God's green earth that it was the best movie ever made. Hell, on my list, "Funny Games" beats it by at least six spots.

I work at a movie theater, and though Dark Knight has been selling out, most customers have been disappointed by the flick. Most people say "It's good, but..." and "Meh" when asked how they enjoyed it. I personally loved it,though.

Still, it's most definitely not the best movie of all time, or even top 10. Not even the best this year actually.

I bet my lucky coin that not even Nolan is happy about this, because he knows it will only spark negetive reactions from film fans. In fact i feel sorry for any film that gets the number one spot, because theres bound to be debate and anger. Even a lot of people posted anger in the Godfather IMDB boards the past couple of years.

Is it the best film of all time? no, we all have our favorites, i'm glad though because it could be a hell of a lot worse (like LotR)

I would, however, place Heath Ledger's Joker at the top of the villain's list. Right between Hannibal Lector and Darth Vader would be perfect.

What an amazing film. This is the only film since AMERICAN BEAUTy, that Ive been compelled to tag along and see twice.

I think another sequel would really undermine what Nolan & Co. have accomplished as a film. Gordon's narrative to his son was the greatest ending to a comic book film, ever. True, there were some major plot holes, and they become more apparent the second time, it still as a whole is amazing and serves as a stand alone picture; not a sequel. Its been a long hard road to bring back Bat's to glory after B&R.We certainly dont want Batman "nuking the fridge" in 2012 for the sake of WARNER BROS & McDonalds Happy Meal.

Just because there's a lot going on, doesn't mean it all fits together. On paper, in point form, yeah, it sounds great and exciting. But as I'm watching the movie, I'm feeling a disconnect from one scene to the next. Something happens just because it has too. There's a giant list of stuff that doesn't work well in this movie, its all superficial, but the tone is serious. If don't know if that's supposed to trick me, but it doesn't. Small thing you should pay attention to if you watch it again... what detective work does Batman, or the cops for that matter, actually do in this movie? It's a really lazy script in the sense that it doesn't make things as realistic as the tone, or dialogue, would have us believe.

It doesn't really matter I guess. I wouldn't be jumping for joy if a movie I love like Clockwork Orange or Seven, or whatever would be number one. Clearly TDK is in this position because fanboys are rabid right now (this includes most critics). Keep in mind Metacritic has a slightly more acurate rating system then Rottentomatoes in that it give sthe overall average of the grade, and not whether overall response was positive or negetive. Right now it scores an 83. It goes without saying that many fans are letting TDK get off easy with excellent scores when most of you would agree or have already stated the many annoyances with the TDK, despite some very brilliant parts. A real world Batman? Love it! But a poorly scripted tale... disappointing.
