The Dark Knight logo! May. 12, 2007

Source: Warner Bros.

I remember the rush of excitement and thank-god-they're-finally-doing-it-right relief I felt when I first saw the teaser site for BATMAN BEGINS, complete with the re-vamped Batman logo. It was dark, gritty, bold, industrial and was perfect at capturing the attitude and feel that Batman's relaunchers were going for and eventually achieved. Today brings a new chapter in Batman's 21st century cinematic re-emergence, as the teaser site for next summer's THE DARK KNIGHT has been launched, and a similarly ominous but awesome logo has been revealed. To be honest, I'm not quite sure what's happening here. It seems to be travelling at warp speed, causing it to break apart, and if that be the case, I'm curious as to what exactly that has to do with the film, but like I said before, it's cool so who really cares. Besides, after all those spy pics from the Chicago set and Heath Ledger-as-Joker fakes popping up, it's nice to finally get something official from Warners. THE DARK KNIGHT opens on July 18, 2008, and if you still don't believe that it's really happening, proof positive lies HERE.

Extra Tidbit: I never actually thought Warner Bros. would stick to the title THE DARK KNIGHT, but to their credit, they did. Could this be the first superhero movie without their name in the title?

I honestly think this it not really a logo but a screen cap of the teaser trailer coming soon. I think this because the picture is obviously widescreen (like most trailers are presented in) and seems blurry and not really sharp. Take the first movie teaser site. It had the orginal logo but the entire site was filled with this logo in the middle. The new site looks like they just slap a screenshot on a blank page. So brentage, a teaser trailer might not be too far off.. :D

Now, if they added zombies to the sequel, it will be #1 blockbuster hit! rofl!

It's just simple teaser, probably it'll be not on poster or in the movie, but looks really cool.

Seriously though, I loved Memento, and I LOVE The Following. Insomnia for me was hit and miss at times... the story felt more staged then his other films, meaning plot points were made very obvious at times.. too obvious. And Batman begins was his version of a Comic Book movie, but not a re-invention of the comic book genre, like say what DeathProof is to slasher films (that's a loose example). Seriously lets not give these guys too much credit. We're not all story-tellers so we can't all go out and tell a story. FOr those of us that can, well we can't all tell great stories. Nolan and defenitely Goyer, couldn't tell a great story in this case. In fact, another big flaw this movie had was that its characters were extremely intelligent, and aside from the fact that the actors portraying them managed to convey the look of intelligence, the story wasn't there to support them, my opinion of course. And I say this for reasons I've mentioned in my past posts, and for others there's no need to get into since I'm sure you guys already want me hung by my balls for sounded like a complete dick (which I hope isn't the case).

This logo looks more intense – and rightly so; The Dark Knight is about escalation – but also more classic than the Batman Begins logo, because it's black.

ANYWAY, "i bet these guys thing they're pretty damn clever.." excuse me, they are! nolan is one of the best directors of our times; he is more than 'pretty damn clever.' you want your 'godfather' and 'fight club,' go check out his other films. and a 'guilty pleasure'?! god no, begins is a genuinely good movie--enough said.

I'm not saying a movie can't be a guilty pleasure, or simply entertaining. Not everything can be the Godfather, or 2001, or Fight Club. Some movies are simply a good time. BUT, I seriously doubt Nolan and friends set out to make a simple piece of entertainment... I bet these guys think they're pretty damn clever, and that's what pisses me off. And I forgot to mention the more obvious stuff like the fight scenes, which were a huge mess. I could go on and on, but I'm really not trying to rain on anyones parade, rather I want to say that this movie was far from being original and these guys should take note. Its lame that people just accept these films as is because theyre comic book movies... so they can be cliched, and they can be simplistic and loaded with bad dialogue... sigh. Anyway, best shot in Begins was Batman standing still on that roof while the camera slowly flew around him. That shot was as close to Batman as the movie got for me. Oh, and DaForce... Superman Returns was overall a pretty bad movie, not sure if its better or worse then Begins... but we'll save that for a Superman post.:)

Let's not get into physics, chemistry, and overall reality here Gino or we'll be trashing every superhero flick ever made. I hope they keep Dark Knight as the title. No Batman Rising or Enter the Joker. And who needs II in the title for the most anticipated flick since the last most anticipated flick. I guess I was entertained enough by Begins not to make a big deal out of the discrepancies, but I was a bit thrown off by the Ducard/Ra's bit. Was Wantanabe a fake Ra's? Did Ducard just assume the mantle? Was it all smoke and mirrors? Why would he say Bruce left him for dead? He saved him, didn't he? Anybody have an answer to this?

Am I the only one that thought Begins had one of the worst scripts? Seriously, how many times do they say "fear" or "afraid"? I got it, the story is abour FEAR! Side from that, the batmobile, no I don't mind that it was a tank (I'm not a stickler for comic history and all that), that sequence where he drives up to the roof just so he can use the jump feature... and then the helicopters somehow lose his tail when he smashes off the highway!? And the whole big plan... wow... so the virus is only unleashed when water is turned into steam huh? And they've been pumping this crap into the water line for how long? And you're telling me no one has been boiling water, making soup, tea, cooking, or taking showers!!!!??? And the countless other crap... Seriously, way too many pats on the back for such a lame relaunch... Yes Batman is tougher, good... but they didn't tell much of an original story. Oh, and the whole origin thing where we get to FINALLY find out where he gets his costume, etc... Glad they took the time to explain it... Bruce Wayne goes to work, finds everything he needs. TA... DA!!!! Bravo David Goyer! Bravo Chris Nolan! Masterful!!! And yeah, this new logo... wtv. Anyone with me on this?
