The Jaws sequel you never wanted is finally here!

The original JAWS is such a perfect film, it’s almost a shame to remember that it’s been spun-off into some rather terrible sequels (and one sequel – JAWS 3D – that’s so bad, it’s actually pretty good). It’s been over 20 years since JAWS: THE REVENGE but it’s finally time for a new JAWS film! Well, sort of…

Hitting DVD on October 12th is JAWS IN JAPAN, a movie that has nothing to do with the JAWS universe but is clearly ripping off the JAWS universe. In this version, which takes place on the beaches of Okinawa, two jiggly Japanese college students get lost and can’t find their hotel. They’re taken in by a handsome (yet creepy) guy who lets them stay at his beachside resort. But as it turns out, there’s a hungry, maneating shark in the water and a serial killer on land. What to do? May I suggest running around in your bikini?

I’m not exactly sure how legal it is to bill your killer shark movie as JAWS but that’s probably why distributor Cinema Epoch is trying to keep something of a low profile. I couldn’t find a trailer online (though there is this making-of video, which features a girl rubbing lotion on herself so…) but there are some pics to prove that this actually exists and I didn’t just dream it all after too much tequila. Thanks to Cinematical for the heads up.
