Tom Cruise and Jack Nicholson reuniting for the action comedy El Presidente?

Do you want the lawlz? Can you handle the lawlz?

Warner Bros. sure hopes so. LA Times’ 24 Frames reports that the studio has put an offer out to Jack Nicholson to play the titular role of a former and terrible commander-in-chief in EL PRESIDENTE. Meanwhile, Jack’s A FEW GOOD MEN co-star Tom Cruise has attached himself to the project in the role of “a dedicated Secret Service agent assigned to protect [the] bumbling and degenerate ex-president.”

The action comedy comes courtesy of a spec script from late-night television writer Dan Goor. He brings with him one hell of a resumé that includes stints on the writing staffs of “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart”, “Late Night with Conan O’Brein”, and most recently, the hilarious “Parks and Recreation”.

Just a couple of days ago, TheWrap broke the news that Goor’s script picked up by WB. They have a slightly more detailed story breakdown:

“The story follows an overly-committed Secret Service agent who is assigned to guard the country’s worst former president, a bumbling sleaze. It’s a mundane and boring job — until there’s a threat made on the ex-president’s life, forcing the duo to go on the run together.”

Pretty WTF, huh? While I under any other circumstance would think this sounds like a disaster in the making, the interesting element of writer Dan Goor and his previous work makes this worth keeping an eye on. That, and Cruise has never been one to just arbitrarily attach himself to nonsensical projects. Can’t wait to hear who might be directing this.
