Usually when a big name actor leaves a project, it’s not a terribly good sign. But what about when he’s replaced by a better actor? Thumbs up!

According to Vulture, Tom Hardy is stepping in for Sam Worthington in McG’s THIS MEANS war to star opposite Chris Pine. Knowledge of Hardy was until recently only relegated to the devoted few who saw ROCKNROLLA and BRONSON, but with INCEPTION his profile has been posted further, and by the time his MAD MAX installment comes along, he’ll probably be a household name.

No word on why Worthington dropped out of WAR, but I think Hardy is a better actor. Despite being the lead in the biggest film of all time, Worthington is a bit of a blank slate. I mean, the man was literally a bricklayer in Australia before James Cameron found him. I’m sure his abilities will grow with time, but in the meantime, he’ll be comfortable with just pointing weapons at things and yelling.

And that’s pretty much what THIS MEANS WAR seems to be, as the official synopsis goes something like this:

Two best friends, both of whom are spies, who go to war with each other after falling in love with the same woman (Reese Witherspoon ). It’s about what’s more important — your best friend or the love of your life — and what happens when the two come into conflict with each other.”

Bros before hoes guys! Bros before hoes!

COMING SOON!

Extra Tidbit: I'm actually pretty goddamn pumped for the new MAD MAX movie.

I was on board until I read "falls in love with same woman (Reese Witherspoon)." It's hard to imagine folks going to war over her. ...Goes to war over Rachel McAdams? Yes. Over Reese Witherspoon?.. No!

Reese Witherspoon? Gross. As if McG directing wasn't bad enough.

...and another thing...
Last summer Hardy filmed a movie called "Warrior" here in Pittsburgh. It's an MMA movie from the director of Pride and Glory (name escapes me at the moment). Anyhow, one of my former students was an extra in the film and actually got to hang out ("played some X-Box") with Hardy and said he was such a down to earth, good dude. I'm curious to see his "Pixburgh" accent when that comes out. I like...

I like Worthington too, but Hardy is quickly becoming one of my favs right up there with Colin Farrell, Statham, and Olyphant....hmmm who will round out that fan boys top 5???

Tom Hardy is great
but this movie sounds stupid and McG fucking sucks. Tom Hardy should replace Sam Worthington in everything though because Sam Worthington also fucking sucks.

Hmmm....
Sounds kinda plain, but I like Hardy and Pine. But who the hell wants to fight over Reese Witherspoon?

McG is still McG
I like Hardy, I like Pine and I like Witherspoon but the ingredients don't matter much if the cook is bad. I would kinda have prefered that Worthington had stayed on the project. If actors I don't like work for directors I don't like, I get to ignore all of them at the same time!

Not a fan of McG and I agree Worthington is highly overated and not a very good actor. But having never heard of Hardy before Inception, I enjoyed the hell out of him in that movie. The back-and-forth between him and JGL were among my favorite parts. I'm down for seeing anything with him in it, but seeing how McG is involved, they'll really have to sell me with the trailer to make me see it any...

Really? This is a McG movie folks. As already pointed out, McG just grabs any flavor of the month actor he can. He uses this as a crutch. Not to mention that this is the second time McG has leached talent from Nolan (remember back when McG kept comparing Terminator Salvation to The Dark Knight?) McG sucks ass. His movies suck ass. And no actor, no matter how good, can save a McG movie from...

Sounds about right...
Hardy's a much, much, much better actor than Worthington. The guy's got the chops to be a leading man with an actual personality and some charm. You know, those things we actually cared about before in movies.

I like Worthington, but this is two steps forward. So it went from Cooper to Worthington to Hardy? Never would have seen that one coming.

Meh
McG tends to go after whoever's the flavour-of-the-month; he cast Worthington in Terminator Salvation after he realized he was starring in the next James Cameron movie, obviously hoping to win some cred, but the movie was just "meh." I agree that Worthington is kind of dull, with little charisma, and on a personal level he seems rather arrogant and ignorant. He went about demanding rewrites on some Aussie soap opera he starred on because he wanted more screentime/dialogue, and threw fits on set when he didn't get his way. And he made some statements about acting in an interview with Esquire that made him look both unappreciative of his success and unappreciative of acting as an art form.

Hardy's a good enough actor from what I've seen, but I don't know if he'll quite become a household name because he's proven to be quite troublesome himself over in England. Beyond his drug addictions over the years, he's not exactly known for his pleasant work ethic. I saw an interview with him on Jonathan Ross where he inexplicably adopted some sort of gangster accent and I got this wannabe-bad-boy vibe from him, like he wants to be another Mickey Rourke or something, but time will tell whether he's got the chops.

i don't mind a little rockstar bad behavoir from an actor. Keeps them interesting. as long as it's authentic.

I am more sorry that he is stuck working for McG.
