I'm not sure how many people over the age of 12 were especially excited about the prospect of a third FANTASTIC FOUR movie, but that possibility seems to have dissipated like a giant cloud of Galactus.

At least that's according to two-time Human Torch himself Chris Evans (the most entertaining thing about either of the FF flicks), who doesn't sound keen on returning to the overly goofy franchise, and it's unlikely to happen anyway: "I’m pretty sure we won’t do [another] one. I’m assuming that one is a closed book. After the first one was released we got wind of potential titles and plots [almost immediately], and I’ve heard nothing from anyone at Fox [yet]. We had all planned on doing [another] one but if there were going to be a third I think a week after the second one was released we would have heard. It takes up a lot of time. It’s a big commitment. I’m happy with walking away."

While that may be sad news to Tim Story, I like Evans and would rather see him tackle some better (or at least more serious) material. Besides, there's a good chance IRON MAN has the potential to set the bar much higher for other Marvel movies. Maybe they'll just reboot the FF franchise (a la HULK) in a few years anyway...

Evans will be seen next in the LA cop thriller STREET KINGS.

Source: MTV

Extra Tidbit: Since they're apparently going younger for the role, how about Evans for the new Jack Ryan?

Thank you God....
Did MARVEL and FOX finally come to their senses? Looks like it. I call for a reboot of this franchise after the stench of the first two fades away, which could take some time. While they're at it how about another crack at DAREDEVIL and GHOST RIDER?? There's always room for improvement...

I never bothered with the FF movies (okay, caught part of the first one on HBO one time).

But I think, in particular for Evans, this is a good thing. Now people can actually enjoy the good work he's turning out and not just think of him for his obnoxious role there.

I'm happy for not seeing anothe FF movie. I would liked a better one, more matture film, but both of them where like Teletubbies with superpowers.

Well, the FF comics always tended to be on the "light & fluffy" side compared to most others, so a family-oriented tone makes sense for a movie.

My biggest beefs with the movies were the pathetic villains: Hurricane Galactus & Dr. Metrosexual Yuppie. To be fair, I don't think Julian McMahon's a bad actor, just woefully miscast.

Anybody else remember when Alexis Denisof and Charlize Theron were going to be cast as Reed and Sue in a FF movie done in the style of "A Hard Day's Night?" That's the movie I would've loved to have seen.

Reboot. The FF movies sucked when they could have been the best Marvel adaptions filmed. But Nooo... they had to be cute and clownish. Reboot.

i dunno
The Fantastic 4 movies were ok.. they were huge dissapointments in most people's eyes, and they also were in mine. I enjoyed Chris Evans and Ian a lot. Alba sucked like she does in every movies she's ever made... and Chiklis was "ok" but I feel like he tried too hard as the Thing.

Obviously they're not going to "reboot" this franchise until at least 5-10 years down the line. ...

Obviously they're not going to "reboot" this franchise until at least 5-10 years down the line. They just pumped out 2 pretty successful films at the box office, and they can't just overhaul and entire franchise that already has 2 films done, with a cast full of names.
No matter how much you bitch and moan it's just not going to happen.

Once Marvel's Hulk "reboot" tanks at the box office just like the first one, they're going to have to take a long and interesting look at some of their films. Maybe hire a writer or director that can really make these films work. (Nolan/Singer/Raimi)... and while you're at it, maybe hire actors that can actually.. i dunno, act?? Not just eye-candy for their pop mobiles. Actors like, I dunno.. Gary Oldman, Liam Neeson, Michael Caine, Christian Bale, Tom Wilkinson.. that list goes on and on. The only "pop" eye-candy actress was Katie Holmes who quickly got replaced after an unconvincing turn as Rachel Dawes.

But then again, it didn't look like Fantastic Four was taking itself too seriously, and clearly it tried a little too hard in the second one (with alba dieing, the world ending, their powers switching).

It all comes down to this: Comic books are meant to be comic books.

Some characters can work brilliantly in CINEMA. I.E. Batman, Superman, X-Men, Spider-Man, Sin City.. these are all comics and graphic novels turned great movies. Because they have the depth to their characters that can be explored and sought out. Some just won't last as movies.. The Hulk, Fantastic Four, Aquaman, The Flash. That's really all it comes down to.

Crap movies that had the capacity of ending up good shouldn't, by common sense, be acceptable.

Can't some people just accept that fact that sometimes movies just suck, and you don't need to go around tossing out buzzwords like "Reboot" every time one of them comes out?

Back to the drawing board already
Both Fantastic Four and Spider-Man, yes, Spider-Man, deserves a second shot in the form of reboots. Both flicks has obvious flaws and done right, they could be awesome. They should be treated with the same respect as Iron Man and the Hulk.

I don't want to see Galactus in a Silver Surfer spin off. Put him in a FF reboot instead, along with the surfer.

Oh, did I ment...

Not for nothing, but couldn't the reason why he hasn't heard anything about plotlines for FF3 be because of the writers strike for the past few months?

After two successful movies, I'm sure Marvel will be looking for the trilogy. Chances are that we'll hear more when Iron Man and the Incredible Hulk come out.

Risking a skewing here....
I love this site, but I am not a fanboy - hell, not even a boy. However, Fantastic 4 was my absolute fave as a kid and I would not even rent these - refuse to watch them. I agree with Doctor Zubian - this needs a reboot big time. It is worthy.

Also, for the record, I loved X-Men Last Stand lol

Fantastic Four: Attack of the Skrulls
The only reason another FF sequel isn't happening soon is because Jessica Alba is pregnant and I can't see them making a FF movie without her, this franchise is far from over, a Silver Surfer spin off doesnt sound like the right way to go,just bring him back for a third FF with the full Galactus form and the Skrulls!

Fantasic Four has always been the goofy comic book series. I know people have been blasting the movies for it being to "cartoony", but that's exactly how the comics are.

Cameo
Read the blog on MTV.com just to see what was up with this and he did say he was willing to do a cameo as the Human Torch in another movie. I am cool with this but really, what other movie could he show up in? Spider-Man 4 might not happen seeing as how number three pretty muched sucked, and he wouldn't fit into any other movie with out a good deal of explination to go along with it. I think...

Well, I'm gonna be a rebel here, and say, "Too bad." I really liked the first FF movie. I mean, REALLY liked. Sure, it was brainless. Sure, it fudged a few facts (as if "X-Men" didn't). But you know what? Unlike the whiny-ass "Spider-Man" films, it was FUN. So here's hoping that Evans has just been temporarily out of the loop.

Oh, and f*ck Black Panther, I want some Skrulls!

To include the following quote from Evans, which should clarify for you: “It takes up a lot of time. It’s a big commitment,” he said. “I’m happy with walking away.”

The comics have been one of the most popular titles for over 40 years and to alter the characters and the look for a movie is just stooopid...

DON'T CARE MUCH...
I don't care much for the FF series anyway...they're dorkier than Superman in his prime. And that's maximum dorkiness. Anyway, saying that Iron Man will raise the bar for Marvel movies isn't saying much, Dave. Marvel have proven time and time again that they're hype amounts to nothing. Spider-Man 3 was bound to raise the bar. All it did was eliminate said bar alltogether. And since they've started the whole 'reboot' trend now with Punisher and Hulk (probably soon to be followed by Ghost Rider, Elektra, and Daredevil), I'm sure they're all the more confident that if one version doesn't fill their banks, another version of the same hero(es) will bring them luck a couple of years down the road.

I think that this is not really a prime example of good journalism, my friend, because what you are doing is distorting what the source quote really says; I agree with "TomThumb" that nowhere does Evans really say that he is not keen on doing another one. What he is saying is that it is unlikely because they haven't heard anything from the studio as they did when the first one was finished. What you get right is that Evans is saying that a third film is unlikely to happen.

As for myself, I would have lived just as happy had they not made the first one to begin with as I have completely lost my faith in how Marvel is treating its property.

With best regards,
KK
