Even with all the attention on JJ Abrams' mysterious monster movie (now called COLOSSUS?) -- which he's just producing, by the way -- we haven't lost sight of his other high-profile project, the reboot/prequel of STAR TREK.

And the movie officially has its Vulcan. Two of them, actually. But the same character. And yet neither has an evil goatee! The previously rumored Zachary Quinto, best known as the villain Sylar on the popular yet silly superhero show HEROES, will put on the ears and Starfleet uniform as young Spock in the flick.

But wait, there's more Spock! Leonard Nimoy himself will also return to his legendary role... which makes me wonder if the movie will be bookended by Spock and Kirk sitting around having a chat: "Hey, remember way back when we were younger and played by other actors?"

In addition, JoBlo ensign 'ElderPredator' sent along the new teaser poster for the flick. Set phasers on 'Retro'.

Source: Variety

Extra Tidbit: Spock's first name is Carl.

Trek is a great, myth-making franchise and I'm glad that the rumors of its death were exagerrated. If Nimoy's in, then it must have some quality to it, because he skipped Generations for that reason alone. Very logical decision after seeing it. But I haven't been this excited since I mind-melded with a giant cheeseburger. PAINNN! murderers!! THE CHILDREN!! No eat I!!

Eh, whatever.

Trek's okay, but I'd much rather see a sequel to Serenity...or even a Farscape movie. Hell, I think I'd rather see a Voyagers! movie than another Trek. Or how about a proper Land of the Lost adaptation (that is, not some damn Will Farrell parody).

Starburst!
I would like to see this movie as much as I would like for a man to drink a glass of goat's milk and spit it onto my face. Why! Why must they continue to make Star Trek films! I thought X was supposed to be the last one?

Gee . . .
. . . all this time I thought Spock's first name was Benjamin. :P

I'm not thrilled for now, but all can be forgiven if Abrams does it right.

I always found watching star trek like watching bad porn, I'd flip over and find something better to watch. I'm becomming more of a fan of Abrams as each day passes but can't manage any excitement for a trek flick, and on top of that, that poster does absoutely nothing for me.

i don't know about this one. i can't see girls with green skin in mini-skirts or the old ships with the satellite dishes on them playing well with the kids today - unless they plan to somehow re-imagine this era in a more hi-tech way. but then they'll have to deal with the Trek fans having a royal meltdown for busting up the chronology or whatever.

either way, i going to hold of...

either way, i going to hold off getting too interested in this until i see some footage.
