It's a story that could have been written for the past two or three months - there's trouble on the set of X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE. It's something that hasn't been a well-kept secret as a lot of us in the web world have heard the rumors from down under. But now Hollywood Elsewhere is reporting on a specific instance to backup the rumors of Fox's unhappiness with the film. The report claims Fox head Tom Rothman is using his powers to override the word of director Gavin Hood. It seems Fox and Rothman aren't exactly happy with the WOLVERINE movie. While that might initially bum you out, their unhappiness with the film is a good thing. Fox has reportedly been very unhappy with the "dark" tone of the film and is actively working to try and make it more "family friendly." Right, because that worked so well with FANTASTIC FOUR...

Hollywood Elsewhere says that Hood left the set for a brief period of time only to return and see a large set for the film had been completely repainted to make it brighter and give it less of a dark and somber vibe. I would think that with the success of THE DARK KNIGHT and the Comic-Con footage (which featured Wolverine telling Sabretooth he was going to rip his "goddamn head" off), that they might opt for a darker feel.

Now keep in mind that rumors of turmoil between Fox and Hood have been swirling for some time now and this is just one of the first leaked incidents to support those rumors. I'm sure as the project continues through editing and post-production we'll hear even more. Hopefully Fox will invite a few select journalists to some kind of pow-wow with Hood (perhaps in the edit bay) to help straighten all this out...

I already saw one comic movie gutted this year please don't make it 2. And for those that don't know, I'm talkin about "Wanted". It was a great action flick but about 90% of the comic was left out of the movie. That fukkin sucked.

... untrue rumor for Punisher should be a lesson that we shouldn't waste too much of our time on them and wait for real news.

I've been begging for a more adult comic book movie for a while, and I doubt Wolverine will be it, but here's to holding out hope. I'm thinking Punisher or Watchmen will end up filling the bill on that account.

FOX sucks
This is the second movie FOX is trying to ruin in the past few weeks, the Hobbit being the other. Most of movies profits comes from rentals and dvd sales. No one wants to buy Fantastic Four type movies. Kids don't have money, but the rest of us do. Leave the kids movies to Pixar and Disney.

Dark Knight is prolly concidered a "dark" movie and I would say it's a hard PG-13. Look at how it's doing....who cares....if it scares the kiddies...then they can go home and watch sponge bob!

Oh and Balboa6, the Harry Potter movies are super watered down. I always thought all of the books were dark, even elements of the first. The movies [except for the amazing 3rd one] don't come close to emulating that.

I don't understand why studios hire directors who make dark movies when they really want a family friendly film. The guy made Tsotsi and Rendition. It feels like this happens a lot now, where studios hire a visionary director to shoot something and then bitch about his vision. The biggest current case of this I can think of is the whole Spike Jonze/Where the Wild Things Are debacle. If you wanted a cookie cutter movie, you shouldn't have hired Spike Jonze! Where did all the trust go for directors who have earned it?

Gavin Hood is not an action director. Period.

A friend of mine was working on the set in Australia and said that second unit was doing a lot more than they should have, and that Fox eventually told Hood to go back to the states to start working with the editors.

I thought that the trailer looked okay, but I'm certainly not expecting much.

X Men 3- awful in every way shape and from, spiderman 3-crap, fantastic four 1 and 2- crap, Hulk (both of them)- crap, Punisher-Crap. Iron man was only half watchable because of Robert Downey Jr, if it hadn't have been for him it would of been crap. The formula has run dry and is no longer interesting. T...

For fuck sake, man!! It's a dark story, afaik Woverine's origins are shrouded in the blackest of black depths of a really dark bit of a dark place where's there's alot of dark. I'm sure Hood won't be taking this lightly ( no pun intended ) because this is what the fans have been wanting to see for so long then the execs come in and try and sprinkle some glitter on it to get the kids in.
