I'm sure the hardcore fans of TWILIGHT were aware of this news about 15 seconds after it was announced over the weekend, so I guess this is for everyone else.
As we learned the other day, the new HARRY POTTER movie has been pushed from its November 21st position to next summer. And since the box office abhors a vacuum, the crazy-popular teenager-loves-vampire movie has fluttered into the open space from its original December 12th date. Now we know where all the nubile girls (and the men who stalk them) will be on November 21st! The movie won't be alone -- Disney has also put its animated flick BOLT onto the same date, and the Jamie Foxx/Robert Downey Jr. drama THE SOLOIST opens that day.
For those who somehow don't know, TWILIGHT is based on Stephanie Meyer's bestselling book(s) and tells the story of Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart), who moves to the small town of Forks, Washington to live with her father and becomes drawn to Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson), a pale, mysterious classmate who seems determined to push her away. But neither can deny the attraction that pulls them together… even when Edward confides that he and his family are vampires. Their unorthodox romance puts her in physical danger when Edward’s nemesis comes to town and sets his sights on Bella.
Extra Tidbit:
Besides vampires, 18-year-old Kristen Stewart has already dealt with home invaders, lizard men from space, farm ghosts, and Stephen Dorff. The horror!

I have this thing against female authors who "borrow" other author's ideas/concepts and attempt to either revitalize the interest in it or make some cash off of it. This hack and Laurie R King come to mind. |

In my opinion, this movie looks like unbearable crap! The dudes that play the vampires look like total douchebag TOOLS! |

Good, for two reasons.
One, it'll be out earlier. YAY!
And two, this frees up the competition for the 12th, when THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL comes out. BIG yay! |

PRETTY SURE THIS MOVIE WILL MAKE BANK
I work at a school and I'm not exaggerating when I say probably over half the student body has read at least one of the books. They're seriously the closest thing we have to "The Next Harry Potter". The fanbase for these books is absolutely huge and I was honestly worried about The Day The Earth Stood Still being demolished by THIS rather than the other way around. So this works out well both ways, the fans get to see it a couple weeks early and TDTESS (there's seriously no good way to abbreviate that title) has no major competition opening weekend. |

Don't count this flick out. I recently made the mistake of visiting my local Barnes & Noble on the night of the release of the latest Twilight book and I felt like a freak in normal street clothes compared to the 500 vampire-damsel-dressed pre-teenage girls that were swarming about. And news outlets reported that that book had broken a shit ton of records, so I wouldn't count this movie out. It's like LOTR for pre-teen girls and I'll bet that the film will fare pretty well. |

i actually never heard of this Twilight book stuff until i had seen some stuff for the flick, and even then i didnt know exactly what it was (it wasnt until the recent Entertainment Weekly article that i knew what the fuck Twilight was, and im generally the type of dude that knows about most anything entertainment related even if it doesnt interest me)... but, the story sounds meh, and i always figured by it going against The Day The Earth Stood Still on Dec 12, it would get demolished!
I still think 15 year old girls may go check this out opening weekend.. but it will diminish after that i think.. i dont think this will be a hit.
I do like Catherine Hardwick though, she directed Lords Of Dogtown, which is an excellent skate flick with great performances by Heath Ledger and Emile Hirsh, and Kristen Stewart is pretty hot... still.. Vampire flick that isnt the FIRST or Second Blade, generally disaster! |
