Unused Spidey 2 script
Well see, now this is great. A while back, celebrated author Michael Chabon (WONDER BOYS) wrote a script for SPIDER-MAN 2, which didn’t get used. But now, in an act of extreme benevolence, the quirky literary journal McSweeney’s has put Chabon’s entire script for the film online, which you can download as a pdf HERE (scroll down a little). Chabon was one of four writer’s brought on to work on the script, and eventually was given a “screen story” credit. Why this never got used, I don’t know. And while SPIDER-MAN 2 was a great film and easily the best in the trilogy, I can only imagine that this screenplay is better than the one that used (maybe I'll actually read it and find out). Chabon is a great, Pulitzer prize-winning author, but I guess that may not translate into efficient screenwriting.

So there's no reason why a well known and established superhero character like Spider-Man doesn't deserve a reboot. That doesn't mean we should suffer through the whole origin again. Flashbacks are a good solution.
I guess what everybody wants is a better actor than that faggot, what's his name... yeah, Tobey Maguire. And someone that actually looks like Mary Jane.

Yes it's fashionable to hate on the Spidey flicks now--and yes the filmmakers have a lot to answer for over the third film. But I still think Raimi and yes, Macquire did top-notch work thru all 3 films, even if the screenwriters or whoever producers couldn't decide between the 5 or 6 different plot threads for the last feature. I really think they were trying to make the best film they could while living up to the expectations and box office of the first two.
Comic movie fans always expect the moon and stars--maybe George Lucas was right when he recently said "IT'S JUST A FUCKING MOVIE!" (paraphrased).

And the scenes you mentioned? I think they are great scenes. Yes, the Aunt May scene/speech might of gone on a little long, but the acting from those two is too damn good to pass up. It works great. And the scene with Peter meeting Ock and his wife is probably the best scene in the whole film.
But because it's because of that film that Spidey 3 is no doubt one of the biggest disappointments of my life. There is just way too much going on, and definitely should of been made into two films. And don't get me started on Venom...the character was flat out butchered.
X2 is a damn good movie, and one of the best superhero flicks around but I think Batman Begins and Spidey 2 nudge it out just slightly. I love Begins as well, and like everyone else am looking forward to The Dark Knight in great anticipation. But I'm not trying to get too excited, that happened with Spidey 3 and that didn't turn out too well.

I personally felt that the atmosphere of the first movie was spot on. You knew that you were watching a comic book, which was great, and it was done at a good enough quality that it resonated with all ages and not just the target demographic.

Sorry to burst anyone's bubble, but the Spider-Man franchise did not have 18-35 as it's target demographic because that wasn't the TD of the original comic. Comic books, for the most part, are geared towards kids. Some are aimed at a bit of a higher age, but a character like Spider-Man was aimed towards children of all ages. There's no way it would have been possible to keep in the same mold as an X2, because the character types are presented to us in a different fashion.
However, much like X-Men: The Last Stand, Spider-Man 3 tried to have too much going on and was a blemish on an otherwise prosperous trilogy.
Spider-Man: Dealt with the discovery of becoming a superhero.
Spider-Man 2: Dealt with the difficulty of becoming a superhero.
Spider-Man 3: Just too busy, with too much brought in. Emo Peter was overdone.
In my opinion, even the presence of Venom tarnished the appeal of the film for me. I know that the character is vastly popular, but overall I feel his importance to the mythos is overrated. As far as the films go, I'd say he is to the Spidey trilogy as Darth Maul is to the Star Wars prequels. Sure he's cool, sure we can get him to suit a purpose, but in the grand scheme isn't as significant as some would like to believe.

Regarding the barrage of anti-Spidey comments in here, I just think it's pretty obvious that we're dealing with some extraordinary intellectual prowess. I mean, one guy named "a sweet nip shot" as the second best thing about the first film, another guy cannot spell "pedestal", another guy hates comic book movies, and one more thought Spiderman 3 was the best installment of the series.
I really don't think any more needs to be said. Geniuses across the board.

In general, i hate comic book movies coz they get so much hype and they end up sucking donkey dick, thats why Im still not too excited about Ironman. However, I have to say that Batman Begins and X-2 were good. Heres to hoping that TDK will be as good as everyone seems to be so sure it will be.

The scene with him talking to Ock and his wife?
The scenes with him and Aunt May?

Spidey 2 was an outstanding movie, and easily one of the best comic book flicks around. It does pain me to see everyone just hate on everything Spider-Man now because Spidey 3 wasn't up to snuff. And even then...Spider-Man 3 wasn't total shit. Just incredibly disappointing. There's a difference you know.

Thanks for the find though Ben. I skimmed through it and most of the actual film seems like it came from this screenplay. I don't know what to think about Ock being a love interest to Mary Jane though. The classic Doc Ock worked wonders in the movie, and I think that would of gotten lost in this screenplay.

Anyway, that's not the only reason #2 sucked. His powers turning on and off randomly was also annoying, and I hated the fact that the arms were controlling the Doc and not the other way around. Stupid.
Number 3 was a total shit peice. The "evil" Peter Parker walking around with a douchey look on his face, then doing a DANCE NUMBER that is cringe-inducing (I can't believe that made the cut). They totally wasted/ruined Venom as well. GARBAGE.
