Bryan Singer and writer Christopher McQuarrie have signed on to work on their first film together since THE USUAL SUSPECTS. The two have been quietly working on a thriller over the past few months and brought it to Tom Cruise who immediately snatched up rights to the film for United Artists, the studio he’s running with partner Paula Wagner. Not much is known about the film other than its a WWII thriller that is similar to USUAL SUSPECTS. Singer will make the film his next assignment pushing back Warner Bros.’ plans for a sequel to SUPERMAN RETURNS (which they still like totally swear they still want to do). Singer’s film will be the second project set up at Cruise’s UA after the upcoming Robert Redford film LIONS FOR LAMBS (in which Cruise is also starring). Of the project Singer said, “It’s a period in history that has always fascinated me, and we found a very interesting story that materialized into a pretty wonderful script.” Singer is also producing the horror flick TRICK ‘R TREAT, directing the ABC pilot “Football Wives” and writing/directing the upcoming X-MEN 0 for Fox. OK, I’m just kidding about that last part. But wouldn’t that be great?
Usual suspects back!
