Wanted featurette May. 16, 2008

WANTED The comic based action thriller WANTED will probably be written off as mindless and somewhat pointless action bullshit but the featurette the folks at "Empire Online" recently posted shows us one very important thing - that it's really, really cool mindless action bullshit. Most of it is stripped right from the comic panels and has translated, at least visually, quite well. Director Timur Bekmambetov seems to continue the visual flair he displayed so well in NIGHT WATCH and its sequel DAY WATCH. In the film, James McAvoy discovers he's a descendant of a long line of assassins with superhuman precision and ability with weapons and is recruited by a mysterious organization (run by Morgan Freeman and of which Angelina Jolie is a member) to do some killing. Check out the featurette over HERE. The bullet curving action begins June 27th.

Extra Tidbit: Bekmambetov has the third film in the NIGHT WATCH trilogy, TWILIGHT WATCH, coming out next year.

The more i see the better it's looking. The russian is doing some great kinetic action-work here, and he seems to really get the violent playfulness of the comic. McAvoy looks very cool in his role too. I still hope some of the more outlandish creatures from the original makes it into the film. Some crazy cool characters there.

I don't know...Even after seeing the featurette, I'm still not convinced. But again, if Mark Millar says it's gonna be cool, then it must be cool.

Have you learned nothing?! Angelina + guns = great movie! Except for Tomb Raider. Don't know how they fuck that one up. I wonder if Uwe Boll could have made a better one.

First of all: That accent of the comic author is fucking annoying.

I have a hard time believing this is very faithful to the comic, despite what that featurette shows... It still pretty much seems like a completely different story with very small similarities to the book. However, that's not necessarily a bad thing as the comic is probably one of the most overrated pieces of juvenile chauvinistic shit that the medium has ever produced. The movie, with it's differences, could very well be pretty cool as it does look pretty exciting.
