In a move that could put the final nail in the HD-DVD coffin, Warner Bros. has opted to go exclusive with Blu-ray for their high definition DVD releases. Warners was the last major studio who was releasing in both formats. WB explains the decision was made "in response to consumer demand" and that "
"consumers have clearly chosen Blu-ray" - translated, that means their Blu-ray discs are selling better than their HD-DVD discs. They will continue to release discs in both formats until May 31st, after which they will move to Blu-ray (standard format DVDs will obviously continue to be released). In addition, New Line, the sister studio of Warners, will follow the Blu-ray suit (LOTR fans, get ready to plunk down some serious cash for a Blu-ray box set). So the big question is what does this mean for HD-DVD. Well with only Paramount and Universal as exclusives, it's not good news. Blu-ray now has Disney, Fox, Sony and WB/New Line. Paramount's exclusive deal runs through 2008, after which Toshiba may throw in the towel on HD-DVD. Thoughts? Feeling burned with your HD-DVD player? Thrilled your PS3 isn't stuck with a losing format? Strike back below...
Extra Tidbit:
PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN 3 is the best selling Blu-ray disc to date.

The Financial Times is reporting Paramount and DreamWorks will go Blu-ray also.

Don't worry about re-buying your DVD collection. All Blu-ray players upscale Standard DVDs to 1080p. |

I was worried blu-ray was going to become betamax. Yah know the better in quality with more upside usually loses to the cheap version that sucks technically but hey its cheap! Good going america. 1 format! |

GET A PS3!
By far the best Blu-Ray Player is the PLAYSTATION 3. Its priced at $399 or $499. And no i won't restock my dvd's with blu-ray, thats just a waste of money. But, if you want THE DARK KNIGHT in high def, then you definatley need a Blu-Ray player or PS3 cuz its freakin Batman in HD!
And no aronnyc, Sony will never sell to Microsoft. |

Thanks WB...it's like you just elected George Bush president for life. Sure, there was a better choice out there, but you took the knucklehead. Way to go... |

THIS SUCKS BIG TIME!!!
I decided to take the plunge and went with HD-DVDs. They cost less and come with good bonuses for new players like 12 free HD-DVDs. Now they come with the combo DVD - HD DVD feature which is great since I have one HD-DVD player and six DVD players. Blu-Ray players are still to damn expensive. |

AWW...DAMN!
This sucks! It all boils down to the regular DVD being the best of the batch and the most consumer friendly medium. It looks like HD-DVDs will have to raise the flag of defeat sometime soon...as Blu-Ray slowly takes over households everywhere. Despite Blu-Ray's awesome max capacity and enhanced visual quality, the motion of movies on Blu-Ray completely blows! Blu-Ray is so perfect, too perfect even, that it makes movies look like soap operas or at times, low-budget tv serials, whereas DVD and HD-DVD tend to keep the movements of film intact and undamaged. The motion gets worse when viewed using a Full HD TV. I dont know why the Blu-Ray even gets higher buyrates. Doesnt anyone notice this horrible flaw?? |

This makes me upset! After spending a small fortune on over 150 "normal" dvd's now I have to spend $25 on Blu-ray discs....and not to mention the Huge cost of a Blu-ray player! How long until "regular" dvd's are obsolete? More Money, more money... |

WHO
Really cares? THey really expect people who have spent time building a pretty deep DVD collection to just say oh well, time to start again this time in Hi Def HA yeah right. And does the average consumer even know the difference between Blu Ray and HD DVD? I still think this battle is far from over,or both could go the way of the dodo bird seeing how other companies are already working on formats that are better than these. |

Well, that just makes my PS3 purchase a little less disappointing, since it's become pretty much a $600 paperweight. |
