Weir does The Hobbit?
We've all heard the rumor that New Line is supposedly attempting to seduce Sam Raimi into directing an adaptation of THE HOBBIT now that Peter Jackson is public enemy number 1 (through 20) around the New Line offices. AICN recently dropped another name into the directorial mix, however - MASTER AND COMMANDER director Peter Weir. If it's true, it certainly isn't a bad choice. Weir is familiar with big budget actioners with a surprising amount of heart so if he is to take over for Jackson, he's certainly capable of doing as good a job. Of course, this is all just rumor until officially confirmed or denied but, either way, what do you guys think about it? Good choice? Bad choice? Too Australian-y choice? Strike back a little sumtin', sumtin', will ya?

Extra Tidbit: Weir has directed 5 different actors in Oscar-nominated performances: Linda Hunt, Harrison Ford, Robin Williams, Rosie Perez and Ed Harris.

By the way Stock... I could be wrong but I think Tom Bombadil was in Fellowship of the Ring (his story line was left out), not The Hobbit.

Peter Weir....FUCK YEAH! He rules at action and drama. I've seen Master and Commander and the Truman Show...I'm convinced.

The last thing I need on my DVD shelf is another 8-hour Peter Jackson epic. I'm all for giving a director complete control, but shit...hire an editor if the director can't discipline himself.

This is how they thank him for his efforts , these guys were prob wel off before the trilogy , but now , mainly because of Jackson , they are jillionaires , living the high life , he covered alot of their mistakes in the past , made them go away with these three films , and it wasn't because he was trying to be a directorial hero , it's because he was grateful for the chance to share his talents , his passion , his skill , his genuine affection for the world of middle earth , the money came second .
I think Pj changed the face of epics with these efforts , he deserves to expand on , and finish off what he started , he is the only man or woman that should go anywhere near these films . This is his baby , if he doesn't do it , nobody else should , New Line has to stop being cheap ass ( if they are holding back on money owed , it's more than cheap , it's criminal at this point ) pinheads and open their books , if they are holding back on money owed to Jackson , consider me a person that will never , ever buy , watch , or pay for another one of their films . I'm not even buying any future Lotr trilogy offerings until they come to their senses . Hell , how can i know the money will go to who it's supposed to at this point , these guys are toxic in my book .
No Raimi , he's just a he made money with Sm current golden boy pick , although i'm not saying he couldn't do it , no Pan's Toro , no Commander Weir , wake the fekk up already New Line , and conduct yourselves like gentlemen .
Swallow your pride , show Pj the books , and kiss and make up , or just bite your tongue , if you are even capable of such .If not , as far as i am concerned , the Lotr trilogy directed by Pj ( but unfortunately produced by NL ) will be the only official , most effective , genuine cinematic creation of Middle Earth . Go and choose someone else to do the Hobbit , have your fun and rip someone else off , i'm even surprised someone else will even trust you lot after this debacle .
This whole affair leaves such a bad taste in my mouth , it really is tainting what Jackson and crew have done , it's destroying what these films mean to me , it's anathema to what these films were about .
