Theaters aren't exactly overgrown with werewolf movies (decent or otherwise) these days, and this isn't likely to make lycanthrope fans any happier...

Apparently a remake of the 80s "classic" TEEN WOLF is in the works, and Dark Horizons says SMALLVILLE's beefy Boy of Steel Tom Welling will have a part in the flick. But what's even more curious than Welling getting more movie parts after the tragic remake of THE FOG is that he's reportedly not the hirsute moon-howler -- word is this new TEEN WOLF is... a wolfette. We can only assume she'll play hoops, or at least cheerlead for the basketball team. Welling will probably play some sort of dreamy hunk, speculation mine.

For those who missed or conveniently forgot the more embarrassing chunks of the 80s, the TEEN WOLF "franchise" featured Michael J. Fox and Jason Bateman as students cursed with excess hair and a friend named Chubby (he was obese, y'see).

Source: Dark Horizons

Extra Tidbit: Welling's SMALLVILLE co-star Michael Rosenbaum (aka Lex Luthor) appeared in Wes Craven's werewolf mess CURSED.

LOL!
Is this really necessary? Hollywood is digging deep into the 80's trenches now with this proposed remake. Not only are they remaking true classics like Escape From New York, but they're remaking movies just won't work in any other time period but the 80's. Teen Wolf is pure cheese, and there is nothing that can be done to make it acceptable by today's standards.

stupid
This movie will suck and so did the original then, but hey it was the 80's! Welling will never make it past Superboy on TV, a one hit wonder who will be type cast for the next 20 years.

Meh!
Tom Welling should stick to Smallville. Even then, his acting still sucks compared to Michael Rosenbaum.

Bateman was in the sequel, Teen Wolf Too. Instead of high school basketball, he did college boxing. It wasn't that good, and this project sounds like a really bad idea.

Hmmm... that was so long ago I must've completely forgotten Jason Bateman was in it. All I remember is Fox in a pet store with a kid blowing on a dog call. Contrary to some speculation about remaking bad movies into good ones, this particular project is just gonna be bad.

That said, I'm always optimistic that, given the right creature-shop working, there exists a good werewolf movie somewhere in the future. Just the other side of when studios realize CGI is NOT the way to do it, and NOT to release it in the months of January or February.

I may be wrong about this, there is a slight possibility, but I'm preeetty sure God hates werewolf movies. But it's just a guess.
