WGA Strike pic Whatever sorcery David Letterman and his Worldwide Pants production company and United Artists conjured to get the WGA to make a deal to allow its writers back to work on Letterman's show and UA projects has apparently now been duplicated by the underworld necromancy of the Weinstein Co. WGA writers will be allowed to work on upcoming Weinstein Co. films despite the fact that the strike will be raging on for the foreseeable future. Actually, if the WGA keeps making back-door deals with production companies, could we really even call it a strike anymore? In any case, we should be getting an official announcement sometime soon.

Extra Tidbit: John August has been keeping a pretty good picket line diary over at his OFFICIAL SITE.

This is once again more complicated than it seems. The deal many production companies are negotiating are for projects that have already had the writing started and not brand new concepts. In some cases it is for specific projects. So yes, although this keeps some people at work and some projects from dying, this strike is, as it currently appears, far from being over.

The strike needed to happen because the writers are getting screwed over internet revenue, while actors and producers are making money. And yet the producers claim they don't know how much the internet makes? As for Letterman, he wanted autonomy when he left NBC, so since he owns his own production company, it makes sense why he recieved an exemption. As for Leno, he still sucks last time I checked, so who really cares? I'm wondering though if because Cruise owns UA and the Weinsteins own theirs, then this is how they getting around it? Do independent features get around the guilds?

This just proves that not EVERYONE is in favor of this unjust strike... and by unjust I mean, they didn't need to strike, when they did, the way they did. If everybody was in favor, then there would be NO backdoor deals... period... except in porn.

Somebody I know, actually thought the writers aren't writing AT ALL right now. Really? Uhm, no, trust me, MOST writers love writing and NEED to write, so when they're not picketing, they're at home, smashing out episodes and scripts cause, hell, it's what they do! As soon as/if this is resolved, most writers will just drop a boat load of shit on their agents desk and all will be rolling again... except on certain TV shows, cause they've died a horrible death... and thanks for that...jerks.

This is starting to make all "Strikes" sound bad. I thought the whole purpose of a strike was to stop working!!! By the way I realize that the issue is complicated, but w/the little I know I'm w/the writers. With all the remake crap coming out these days, Yeah that means all the mediocre Japanese crap into even worse Hollywood crap,(Yes that means "One missed Call") Damn kids stop seeing this garbage huh? Seriously the last good one was "The Ring." Right? We need the writers more than ever.
