After the puzzling success of ALVIN AND THE CHIPMUNKS, you knew it was only a matter of time before more films based on 50s-era cartoons were headed into production. Now we get word that Warner Bros. is hard at work on a feature version of YOGI BEAR that would replicate ALVIN's live-action/CGI hybrid. Yes you will see Yogi and Boo-Boo as actual bears who can talk (and presumably wear ties). Joshua Sternin and Jeffrey Ventimilia, who wrote the upcoming Dwayne "Not The Rock" Johnson comedy THE TOOTH FAIRY, will write the script for producer Donald De Line (who is also working on a live-action adaptation of THE JETSONS). Ash Brannon, who co-directed both TOY STORY 2 and SURF'S UP, is attached to direct. I guess my question is whether kids have any idea who Yogi Bear is. I mean Alvin and the Chipmunks were somewhat relevant because of their Christmas songs but I haven't seen a Yogi Bear cartoon in years. But I suppose if kids will see a movie about talking chihuahuas, they'll go see a movie about a talking bear.

I love Yogi Bear, I remember having this Yogi Bear christmas movie on VHS and used to watch it all the time, I think this film has a bigger chance than the upcoming Dragon Ball film, I liked the Scooby-Doo films and the Flinstone's movies really sucked, I hope the new Jetson's film doesn't take that path, I don't know...I'm kind of excited for this, maybe it's the child in me that misses watch...

Like BigShime below I've been talking about a Jonny Quest movie for a long time now...it's amazing how Hollywood got past by this one...it was such a hit back in the days...and I'm still waiting for a FLASH GORDON movie c'mon Hollywood, make this happen pronto!

I was just discussing the prospects that we'd see a Yogi movie with a friend the other day. I won it seems. Could go either way I guess but it'll probably suck.

I second that!
I've always wanted to see a Johnny Quest movie. Kinda like an Indiana Jones for kids, but in a more sophisticated style. But recalling some Real Adventures of Johnny Quest episodes, they were pretty serious, and would translate better as movies for a serious audience. I still want a Johnny Quest movie!

when scooby-doo came out in 2002 i new we'd be getting a yogi bear movie evntually. And just wait, if the dragonball movie is successful, we might get some live action pokemon up in here

Voice actor?
I hope they get someone like Billy West to do the voice. 90% of Yogi's character was his voice. Don't throw in some random non-voice actor which is the norm these days. Luke Wilson as Yogi Bear, meh.

kinda weary but liken it
the idea of yogi stealin pick nick baskets wit boo boo and gettin into who knows what trouble sound's cool but im weary because i heard alvin sucked and i have not seen it personally yet. So lets go Boo Boo!
