47 Meters Down second unit director takes the helm of shark thriller Jetski

After serving as the second unit director on both 47 METERS DOWN (watch it HERE) and 47 METERS DOWN: UNCAGED (watch that one HERE), James Nunn is taking the helm of his own shark thriller, JETSKI. JETSKI was originally set to film in the Dominican Republic earlier this year, but the start of production was delayed due to the pandemic and the project ended up relocating to Europe. Filming is now underway in Malta.

Written by Nick Saltrese, JETSKI centers on

a group of spring-breakers enjoying a weekend in Mexico. After a big night of partying on the beach until dawn, the friends steal a couple of jetskis and take them out to sea, but end up in a horrific head-on collision.

After one of the jetskis sinks, the group finds itself stranded two miles from land on one remaining, broken-down jetski, and struggling with a badly injured friend. With no clear way home and predators circling in the choppy waters below, the true horror begins.

Holly Earl, Jack Trueman, Catherine Amy Hannay, Malachi Pullar-Latchman, and Thomas Michael Flynn star.

Ingenious Media, LipSync, Richmond Pictures, SquareOne Entertainment, and Saban Films are working together to finance the film, which is being produced by Andrew Prendergast and Chris Reed.

Prendergast had this to say about the project:

We are thrilled to be producing JETSKI on the beautiful island of Malta with such a talented cast and crew in these difficult times. JETSKI is a nail-biting ride that will keep audiences on the edge of their seats until the very last minute."

SquareOne's Al Munteanu, who is executive producing the film, added:

A famished shark, college kids — what more do you need? However, finding real freshness in this genre is the holy grail and we believe with its unexpected twists and turns, JETSKI has the DNA to become the next guilty pleasure that speaks to everyone’s desire not to get devoured."

JETSKI has already secured distribution deals in France, Germany and Austria, Spain, CIS and Baltics, Japan, Malaysia and Vietnam, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, and the Middle East. Altitude Film Sales will be presenting it to other potential distributors at this year's virtual American Film Market, which will take place next month.

Munteanu is right, all I really needed to know to be sold on JETSKI is that it involves college kids being menaced by a famished shark.

Variety got their hands on a first look image from the film, and you can see that right here:
