Angelina Jolie unleashes her magic in Maleficent: Mistress of Evil trailer

This summer has already been a big one for Disney thanks to their remakes and sequels, but we must remember they intend on extending their rule into the fall season as well with movies like FROZEN 2 and STAR WARS. Kicking things off is the sequel to 2014’s MALEFICENT – MALEFICENT: MISTRESS OF EVIL – and for it they just dropped a new trailer which finds Angelina Jolie’s title sorceress starting a war filled with all sorts of nasty magic all so that she may stop the wedding of the young Aurora (Elle Fanning) to some handsome prince.

The first teaser dropped a few months ago and mostly focused on Jolie owning the screen as the returning Maleficent, trading quick remarks with Michelle Pfeiffer’s Queen Ingrith. But now this trailer teases the big battle that Maleficent will start after she disagrees with the marriage between Aurora and Prince Phillip (Harris Dickinson). There’s far more magical action teased here, and it ends with a big reveal of the other fairies, including Chiwetel Ejiofor.

While I wasn’t much of a fan of the last movie, this one looks far more entertaining and has the addition of Pfeiffer, which as we know, makes everything better. I also like the idea of Maleficent sowing the seeds for her own descent into villainy by refusing to let Aurora be her own person, having been jaded by love herself in the past. At the very least, it looks like this one will let Jolie let her evil sorceress wings fly and bring some havoc.

Here's the synopsis:

“Maleficent: Mistress of Evil” is a fantasy adventure that picks up several years after “Maleficent,” in which audiences learned of the events that hardened the heart of Disney’s most notorious villain and drove her to curse a baby Princess Aurora. The film continues to explore the complex relationship between the horned fairy and the soon to be Queen as they form new alliances and face new adversaries in their struggle to protect the moors and the magical creatures that reside within.

MALEFICENT: MISTRESS OF EVIL is in theaters October 18.
